The Few, The Proud, The Mandalorians!

By Vestij Jai Galaar, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So… any ideas for Mandalore based creatures/adventures e.g. Mandalore(ruler) stats? If so, how high an adversary rating? I was thinking three or four, but maybe that's just me. I think a high Presence would fit…

I know this is a little off topic, but what might the proper form of address be for

a member of the death watch? Death watchman?

In my opinion, Mandalore would fall into the same category as Yoda, Sidious/Palpatine, Vader, etc. i.e., they don't need stats, because they're precisely as good as they need to be for whatever scene they're in. If on the other hand, one of your PCs wants to challenge a sitting Mandalore for the position, he or she will have to be statted as an appropriate challenge for whatever that PC's power level is. You may need some play-testing before the session to get it right, as a lot of it will have to do with how the PC fights and how you want your Mandalore to fight.

To answer your second question, members of the Death Watch are referred to as "scum" or "targets." ;)

With my 2nd group being reborn on Tuesday, we had a blast with their first adventure. I randomly threw a Mandalorian in the background of the city when a PC asked what kinds of people were around. The PC waited til the Mando was alone, struck up conversation and then proceeded to attack said Mando. Because I hadn't thought up any stats, I grabbed the Master Hunter nemesis stats from the back of the EotE Core and changed the ranged weapons to the classic dual gauntlet blasters. The PC failed their attack, the Mando shot back and took half their wounds in 1 hit, then proceeded to fly off.

The PC's thought this to be weird until at the end of the session, I flipped a destiny point and described multiple Mandalorians flying overhead as the cliffhanger for next time.

Since then, I took the Master Hunter stats, altered and simplified them, making each of the 3 Mandalorians unique while still maintaining that level of lethality and gave them each their stories, proper descriptions and names. I'm a bit paranoid that my players will see this post at some point, so I think I will refrain from describing a lot about them other than their names and roles in their group.

Valen Ezerel: eldest and toughest fighter of the group. He's kind of a brute/bodyguard.

Satine Ezerel: middle child and the strategist/leader. She's got a lot of personality and intellect.

Ca'tra Ezerel: youngest and most inexperienced. She's a fantastic pilot and fencer.

I used given names from the star wars universe but I created the Clan and their stories from scratch. The PC had attacked Satine (who's name they did not get to hear yet). I have a plan in motion about why the Mandalorians chased the group down. It's gonna be very fun, I can't believe I've been running the game for over a year and haven't used Mandalorians yet.

Yeah, when I needed a young Mandalorian bounty hunter to compete with my PC's for a bounty I did just about the same thing.

Let us know how the adventure goes! I've found that it makes PC's a little paranoid to have Mandalorians as adversaries; they tend to blow the whole thing way up in their minds ;) But that's what a good GM does to his party

I believe the appropriate form of address is dar'manda or soulless :)

Are you going to set up a battle with a Mandalore in your adventure? I would definitely give the Mandalore a high soak and defense. (Beskar!) I think that the Rebels sourcebook has stats for beskar'gam, which are the ones I use.

......

Well, with the announcement (finally!) of the "No Disintegrations" book for Bounty Hunters, here's hoping Mandalorians are one of the races. As, quite possibly, one of the greatest (and once most feared) warrior race in the Star Wars universe there really isn't a good reason NOT to include them unless, and we can thank "Clone Wars" for this, you turn them into a bunch of pacifists who are content with the complete and total destruction of their heritage and culture (which in real life would be a crime against humanity. It's actually sad when the "bad guy's" only "crime" is trying to save his races' very culture and history. But hey, the Jedi are the good guys and always right be default because they have lightsabers and spiffy powers ^^.

Personally though, I think there is enough in their lore thanks to Knights of the Old Republic and Old Republic Online to give Mandalorians their own sourcebook with rules on the rites of ones succession to the role of Mandalore and founding your own clan. Also a full list of Mandalorian weapons and equipment such as Mandal Motors vessels and the Bassilisk War Droid.

It would certainly help as I am trying to write a campaign for grey force users that pits the players up against both the Empire and the Rebel Alliance part of which would include aiding in the rebirth of the Mandalorians as a military power.

If you want Mandalorians and playable species, look no further than the upcoming Friends Like These adventure. On the product summary page it was revealed that Mandalorians are included as playable species.

Yeah, this will probably be where Mandalorians get in-depth coverage, since Bounty Hunters cover a much wider gamut of character types than just the buckethead brigades.

I have no idea why people keep thinking that Mandalorians will be in the Bounty Hunter book.

If there's one thing that this game has taught me, it's that someone who is a Bounty Hunter can't also be a Warrior, and someone who is a Warrior can't at the same time be a Bounty Hunter. And since Mandalorains are described as a Warrior culture, the only conclusion I can draw is that all Mandalorians are Force-sensitive, and they will be given stats in Aggressive Negotiations .

It only makes sense, right? ;)

Probably because the most iconic figure that goes around wearing Mandalorian armor is Boba Fett, who is perhaps the most iconic bounty hunter in the franchise.

That and you've got the EotE folks that don't want to shell out money for an AoR product (and an adventure module at that!) just to get their Mando fix.

I know, I was making a joke :) .

Freddie Prinze Jr. did make mention that they were currently recording for season 4 just before season 3 was released in an interview. That's as far as he went on that subject of course.

The totally fabricated info on the "fanon" ("fan canon") site?

Yeah.

Yeah, I saw it was "fanon". It's something I like to daydream about, though ;)

Can anyone give a NON-EDITORIAL form of address for someone from the death watch? And as for the mandalore, I just thought I would give him a bunch of Mandalorian canon fodder. Unless you challenge him to a duel...

That would be a fun scene to play, but I'd have to deal with the consequences of a pc potentially becoming Mandalore. :(

As far as I know you just address them as you would any normal person, with a 'sir' or 'ma'am'. I haven't yet encountered any special titles. That would be fun to spring on the PCs, though, if a certain group of the Death Watch has their own form of address and gets mad at anyone who doesn't call them by it!

And, yeah...not sure what you would do when your PC with the Trandoshan Marauder who has the Gamorrean vibro-axe, well, axes the Mandalore and has to figure out what happens next REAL fast.....

Sweet story

Well, I'm not a GM, but my GM made a recent Mando scenario (That's not done yet) and it's not half bad. Basically, we got hacked by some Mandos and ended up infiltrating them by acting like ration deliverers and killed all of them. There was a Mando sergeant that got hit by my 18 damage crit 1 heavy repeater rifle and died... Because of 1 damage from a stubbed toe! We entered the cave and managed to get back 50,000 credits before the computer fried. We barely made it to the ship before the whole facility blew. Right now we're flying from the leader and our force sensitive dropped down 50 feet.

Those toes, they'll get you if you aren't careful.

Actually, that sounds like a pretty exciting adventure! Definitely want to hear how it ends.

Noted.

At the moment I am plying a armorer/executioner Manndo. In the style of Green Arrow from the CW series added to he normal Mando. Its been fun. Although he can go a we bit crazy in combat and just kill everything. But I expressed my will tobplay a character like that before we started otherwise. I would be tied to a stake in a pile of gasoline drenched wood right now. :)

Well, we've started making an entirely new team so our GM is trying to kill us off. But we won't let that happen, will we? :P

Ha! yeah. and as for the advice about proper etymology for addressing the death watch, I have grasped that there is no special canonical form of address so no more replies on that pls. And if you want to live, calling your death watch captor "dar'manda", practically the worst insult you can give a mandalorian, is not a good idea ;)
