Screed's Squadronless Task Force

By MandalorianMoose, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

The idea behind this fleet is to corrall the enemy's biggest ship and kill it with APT shots, usiing five sources of double AA fire to hopefully put a dent in most fighter forces. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Fleet Summary Page (394 of 400 pts) Faction: The Empire Commander: Admiral Screed (26 pts)

Flagship: (104 pts) Interdictor Combat Refit (93 pts)Projection Experts (6 pts) Targeting Scrambler (5 pts)

Fleet Ship 1: (96 pts) Gladiator II-class Star Destroyer (62 pts) Demolisher (10 pts) Intel Officer (7 pts) Ordnance Experts (4 pts) Engine Techs (8 pts) Assault Proton Torpedoes (5 pts)

Fleet Ship 2: (70 pts) Gladiator II-class Star Destroyer (62 pts) Insidious (3 pts) Assault Proton Torpedoes (5 pts)

Fleet Ship 3: (49 pts) Raider I-class Corvette (44 pts) Assault Proton Torpedoes (5 pts)

Fleet Ship 4: (49 pts) Raider I-class Corvette (44 pts) Assault Proton Torpedoes (5 pts)

Squadrons (0 of 134 pts): Objectives: Most Wanted , Hyperspace Assault , Intel Sweep

Interesting ideas. However, here are a few problems that I see.

1. Targeting Scrambler will be next to useless as it is range 1-3. Your interdictor is speed 2 max, and your Glads and Raiders are speed 3 and 4. You don't want to keep the Raiders at speed 2, same with Demolisher.

2. Projection Experts - Iffy. Yes, transferring shields is good, but how long do you expect the Raiders and Glads to last in combat anyway?

3. You really only have 1 tanky ship. Your raiders, once they get in close (where they succeed) will drop quickly with 6 damage, as long as I get a single accuracy to cancel out your Brace.

4. Starfighters will do a number on your ships. A Rhymer Fireball (or similar bomber build) can eat up and spit out one of your ships per turn. Who cares if the max you can do is 2 damage against each ssquadron.

5. Putting almost as many points into the Demolisher as you do your Interdictor is foolish, at best. You give your opponent a great squishy target to take down, and you know the Demolisher will drop quickly with concentrated fire.

6. No Squadrons? You will get eaten alive. Even going up against 3 blue dice (say 3 TIE Fighters or A-Wings) as an opposing cheap fighter screen, they can do some serious damage.

Yeah, so have you played against targetting scramblers emmjay?

Useful in close, but if they're throwing bombers/fighters at you, you won't be likely to burn it there. Plus you have to be at close range, so an ISD/Lib/Home One can just snipe away at it and use smaller ships to block it from close range.

You guys do realize that I will be actively maneuvering my ships right? I don't plan on leaving them all clumped together in an ISD front arc...

I have played with and against it. What I was saying is that his fleet isn't the most effective way to use that upgrade card. With the Inderdictor max speed 2, 3 on the Gladiators, and 4 on the Raiders, the remainder of his fleet will fly to far away from the Interdictor to get use out of the upgrade, except on the Interdictor itself.

Updated my list after I had a thought to try and utilize the dictor as more of a beater than healer. It can keep up with the rest of the fleet now with engine techs, and still be tanky enough to keep itself alive longer than it should. The fleet is no longer squadronless haha, we will see if this is enough of a screen to hold off bombers for key attack runs. Thoughts?

Could also drop one raider for 2 gozantis for squadron activations, deployments, and ship activations, but that is cutting into both anti ship and anti squadron firepower, as well as dropping a ship that can take advantage of Screed
