literally all he ever said was "xwings suck" and "palp is the most broken card in the game"

Literally? That's literally all he ever said?

You're literally wrong.

You are correct. He also said things like "Rebel Regen was the worst thing that happened to X-Wing" (before the whole Palp Aces phase) and "If you fly PWT ships like Dash or the Falcon, you're a garbage X-Wing player".

You know, real winning stuff to up the class of the forums here.

Literally the first comment on that is,

"If it smells like **** everywhere you go, check your own shoes."

It's something I had to consider in my own life a few months ago - I was trying to get people at a local store to play something, anything , other than D&D and X-Wing, and apparently I had a toxic attitude about it no one was willing to tell me about for a while. So I adjusted it.

He got banned from his local store. He got banned from this forum. He has -70 karma on Reddit. There are a dozen personal accounts of meeting him in person and finding out that he's even more of an asshat in person. His go-to response if you dared to disagree with him was personal insults.

From reading his posts and engaging in forum conversation with him (even when I agreed with him), he sounds like a lonely, bitter man who plays games because winning (and only winning!) helps him fill that empty void for bare seconds before the bitterness washes it away. He didn't care much for playing the game, just winning it. Like a local guy who spent $400 on Dicemasters when the only other person playing it was the 10-year-old son of the store owner.

So, no. Keep him off the forum. It is noticeably more civil and bearable with him gone, even with all this "Oooh, look at my shiny EPT idea!" nonsense. As an official forum for the company's online presence, it's better to keep the more toxic posters out rather than let them poison the forum.

Some Ricks just want to watch the forums burn.

Knows just where to poke the forum's coals to keep the fire burning hot.

I honestly can't see why anyone would want him back. Watching him throw a fit over everything was kind of funny, until it got old and he just kept doing it . It stopped being funny and never started again. Everything was somehow both too garbage to play and OP at the same time, and no matter what you played it said something bad about you as a person (triply so if you played an Outrider or a primary turret). Much like another poster in this thread, I realized he was banned when I wandered onto the forum after a while and was trying to figure out why everything seemed so much friendlier. Then I saw people discussing PGS' ban and it immediately made sense.

Kind of a bad sign when an entire community seems more pleasant just because one specific person was removed.

So he was speaking the truth, I can see why that rubbed people the wrong way.

X-Wing is a minatures skirmish game that is promoted by social tournament events with a semi-official 'fly casual' play style. If anyone disagrees with this type of play (preferring a more 'cut throat' style) then official X-Wing tournaments and the official FFG forums are not the places to try to change people's minds. Hold your own 'more serious' tournaments, build a following, get all the like minded folks you can find and create a new 'fly to win' philosophy and play style.

That Reddit LGS topic sounded like PGS baited his opponent with not calling out his 'turn over all the dials and focus for all the ships at once' play until the SECOND time he did it, denying all those ships actions. That situation pretty much defines ****** behavior, and sounds like entrapment. PGS said others use Play Casual as a weapon to cheat, but it appears he used Play Casual to lure his opponent into a false sense of acceptance of a fairly reasonable play style.

I play Battlefront with him from time to time and he's actually pretty fun to play that with.

Except that a lot of people, myself included, didn't agree with his "truth".

Which would be why his persistence got him banned

The forum is a better place since he "left".

I think he actually had some interesting ideas sometimes, but most people ignored them because they didn't like him personally.

No, that would've been the way he insults almost anyone.

Literally can literally mean figuratively these days.

And I will literally not accept that definition.

Yea, verily. Wo unto them who call evil good and good evil.

The way he said things was also a huge contributing factor.

And that he refused to consider anyone else's opinions and thoughts that went against his "truth".

This is a social game, and a social forum. If antisocial behavior gets you banned or doesn't get you friends it shouldn't be a surprise. If that makes X-wing a 'hug box' then I guess it's a hug box. PGS played by X-wing RAW but did not play the social game well at all. That gets you evicted, at least in reality shows, and in RL relationships.

Everyone calm down. The general consensus was that he wasn't the devil incarnate or an obvious Hitler clone, but that like all of us, he was an individual with a few flaws.

PGS valued the rules and he valued winning and he had strong opinions. Those things are all fine, but the way things have gone down for him are probably an indicator that he also should have tried to see the value in having positive social interactions that were enjoyable for all parties. X-Wing is a community.

He had many points and many arguments that were valid, but the methods he used to make those points and the "tactics" he used to make sure that the rules benefited him whenever possible, ultimately proved very self destructive and I assume that they made everyone unhappy, probably including himself when it was all over.

My hope is that eventually, our boy PGS learns to express his opinions and still pursue the things he values (winning and the rules of the game) in ways that are good for both himself and the community. Let's leave it at that.
