Upsilon shuttle and Decimator builds

4 lambdas and a bomber takes you to 46 HP. It's SUPER OP. Needs a nerf, you might say.

That Stridan build is pretty **** hot....

@Glyph: Ryad soloed your Upsilons? Dang. She is my favourite Defender for a reason...

@Goseki1 Yeah he did...once he managed to get her behind my Upsilons it was hard to shake her off and get her in arc. No matter how out-of-the-box I tried to be, he always could barrel roll to correct any bad maneuvers and get her in range 1. The only ship I had that could do anything had to break off and do a long, round-about turn and get the 4 stress he had off himself...and by that time it was too late.

I've been playing with a way to give the upsilon a bit more manoeuvrability:

Kylo Ren (47) - Upsilon-class Shuttle
Daredevil (3), Fire Control System (2), Inspiring Recruit (1), Pattern Analyzer (2), Hyperwave Comm Scanner (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

Commander Kenkirk (53) - VT-49 Decimator
Trick Shot (0), Hotshot Co-pilot (4), Gunner (5)

this should give kylo the ability to make a u-turn if required and clear the stress with a green manoeuvre the following turn. In addition to this you have kenkirk to remove focus tokens before kylo shoots

I like this build but i do not understand the purpose of enhanced scope... How does it ensure it has actions? Is it because by acting first he wouldnt be stressed by an opponent ability? Also why another Recruit on Kenkirk? Could it be replaced by Intelligence Agent? Or maybe remove it and replace enhanced scope by a fire control system?

4x omicron + hull upgrades : 96 pts for 44 hull

The major downside of double stressing one of your own ships is you are tied to green maneuvers. By Enhanced Scope you move and act first in Movement Phase, thus the chance of losing your action via blocking is down to a bare minimum. I think using Hux's Action to boost these ships' hitting capibility is a must, just like handing out Hux's Card to Kenkirk, ensuring his unavoidable hits via focus.

Having another Recruit on Kenkirk is another defense line: these ships are way too sensitive to stress, so having another way to remove gained stress (from outside of their normal Action economy) is handy.

However, we get to the point where we can find the weakness, or "exhaust port" of this list: an ion cannon can effectively shut down Stridan, and without him Kenkirk may deal a way too insufficient damage.

TL ;DR:

Using Hux's Action is a must in every turn.

I just have to say, I am as pumped about the Upsilon as the rest of you, but these Upsilon/Decimator squads you guys are throwing around make me really apprehensive. I can't figure out the best way to beat them. I guess take down the Decimator and then get behind the Upsilon, but if you don't get behind the Upsilon early, well, you probably won't last long.

Kylo Ren crew on Chiraneau scares me the most. Like, nightmare-level scary. [shudder]

If it was me, I'd pour everything into the Decimator as quickly as I can, then scoot in behind the shuttle. However if someone is playing an arc dodging Decimator or plays very defensively (turning out if engagements etc) and/or uses Kenkirk this becomes a lot harder to do.

I'm not sure how I'd fly this list but it would undoubtedly involve the Decimator going ahead of the shuttle to form a sort of pincer between the 2.

Kylo Ren's card can be ignored via an one point EPT, Determination.

True, but that's a very valuable upgrade slot being replaced by something not hugely useful for a lot of ships.

why? 1. Bump CO give hit 2. Count that opponent will bump - laser (2hit before shooting) 3. Decimator fire - he git nithing so use DV and give crit then use predator roll again and angain DV. One Small ship should die.

Ren is a second guy killer. Range3 crit Range 2 tactician Range1 5dice.

and i gave determination to both ship to discard ,,blinded pilot". Dexi has also crew which gives life (ev token)

12 damage dice and a total of 36 health.

The first game was versus Scum (Ventress, Manaroo, and Rau all with Mindlink (you know the list)). I tabled him and he managed to destroy one ship and take one down to half, the other had 1 shield left so he got no points from him. It was a learning experience to see how hard to push the ships and what to do and what not to do.

The second game was versus Empire (Kenkirk with Palp, Ysanne, Countermeasure, Lone Wolf, Proximity Mine and the standard Push Ryad). I managed to down the Decimator in 2 turns...turn one had one Upsilon at range 3 and the following turn had it in range of all 3 (2 of which were range 1) but he popped Countermeasures. Still managed to cause it to evaporate. The rest of the game was a game of cat and mouse between the Upsilons and the defender. He managed to table me with only 1 minute and 45 seconds left on the clock.

I've been wanting to run that list since they spoiled the Upsilon but it's not on Vassal yet :(

It seems like it should be really good until someone gets behind you at which point it can just kill you at its leisure.

Both monster trucks are 50pts for MOV purposes.

I'm considering bringing this to Regionals in March. Opportunity to test it in a store tournament next week!

What should I watch out for?

Idea with this list is to try and bait opponents with the Decimator, keeping distance where possible. With Kenkirks ability, Palp and Ysanne the Decimator can go for days. If they chase the Decimator I'll follow from behind with the shuttle hopefully stressing them as I do. If they go for the shuttle, they're getting stressed, if I can double stress ships in a mindlinked list it should hopefully help me out. They'll also get Kylo'd which I can hopefully capitalise on with the Shuttles 4/5 FCS Dice and the Decimator + Palp.

I feel like I'd want to swap Palpatine for a Rebel Captive and Gunner. But that may be Chiraneau residue. On Kenkirk, maybe Palp is better.

Re: my I Will Finish What You Started list, is there any advantage to making your ships equal points cost: to make it harder for your opponent to choose which to kill first? I remember this being a thing, several waves ago.

I think having equal points helps you even if your opponents don't specifically take advantage of it. It's worth doing if you're not gimping your list to make it happen.

I had posted this list elsewhere as something of a joke, but the more I look at it the more I want to fly it.

I've chosen Oicunn purely because he is the cheapest Decimator with an EPT. This build allows 4 red Dice with focus,wbich double stresses. With inspiring recruit he can take off both stresses from Experimental Interface and Hux each turn, or if he is getting stressed by Assaj choose between expose and Hux each round (Hux probably being the better choice). Additionally if Kylo has gotten into a pickle stress wise Oicunn can help him out.

The shuttle built the way it is can actually turn around to re-engage, and can even do daredevil or another action after a hard 1 if needed, due to pattern analyzer. It's less of a pain for opponents to shoot then a shuttle with Rebel Captive, but I'm super interested to see how it might perform, particularly as the 180 isn't a k-turn and is thus somewhat harder to predict.

It's a bit silly, but does it have legs?

So I know there's no real interest in this list, but thought I'd post an image if what's possible doing a white hard two and then daredevil. Doing this in the second or third round of combat you should hopefully have a lock via FCS. The brown line on the table is there just got reference.

It's really cool. You can move straight up one side of the board and be free to hard turn/hard turn + Daredevil to keep the shuttle in the game. It's super expensive but I loves it.

I went for this build -

Real admiral Chiraneau- expose, ysanne Isard, agent kallus, weapons engineer (59 points)

Major Stridan - fire control system, Kylo Ren, Systems officer, Kylo Ren's shuttle (41 points)

Systems officer and Stridans pilot ablity synergise well, providing RAC with plenty of target locks allowing him to use expose letting him fire out hits and crits for fun!
