Looking for assistance becoming ruthless

By clanofwolves, in X-Wing

I haven't yet used most upgrade cards I have collected while building my fleet. I've been fairly cautious and used flanking tactics more than any other, which limited what modifications I have fielded. However, I'm thinking it's about time to play-test a few of the untouched cards in my binder. So, help me build a great carrier for:

This always feels like it should go on a large ship to me, since it's more likely to be getting attacked by multiple ships and therefore will more likely have an enemy ship to target Ruthlessness with.

You could try Oicunn with that, crew Vader, gunner, seismic charges, and anti-pursuit lasers for ALL the direct damage. Really not competitive though unfortunately.

The new Snap Shot could be nice with this card. Get in close to 2 enemy ships and if you hit with Snap & then your regular attack: BAM! 2 extra damage dealt.

Vessery with Ruthlessness, TIE/D, and TB puts out terrifying amounts of damage. Only problem is putting spotters in with him and getting something to draw some aggro.

If only they weren't both EPTs... :P

Woops... well I did say "could".

Wa wa wait! ....A-wing test pilot?

I agree the Defenders are prime candidates for Ruthlessness, but they're already so expensive!! Personally, I would use x7 with this to conserve some points.. And for those time when Vess is shooting someone that is range-1 of your own ship. Sometimes you just don't have a choice of who you shoot - unless it's against Dengar, in-arc, you should try to take ALL the shots.

If it wasn't imperial only, I know a z-95 pilot who could trigger it in every attack.

It could be used well with General Huxley. With Huxley as a crew, you can make one ship always able to punch a hit through. Then, you would get to push another damage out. You can put it on a cheap Black Squadron Tie Fighter if you want.

I've played against some double TIE/D Ruthlessness lists. They hurt pretty bad. Just make sure that you spread your ships out, because he was killing himself as often as me most of the time.

Vessery with /D and cannon of your choice can deal up to six damage a turn he's not to be sniffed at.

Glaive,TIE/d, Ion Cannon, Ruthlessness x 2

plus a Naked Albino Void Manatee

Seriously though, if you face lists with 4+ ships in them often,it could be fun. In Epic it'll be amazing. 2-3 ship meta? Maybe not so much.

TIE/D is the way the truth and the light when it comes to Ruthlessness. There may be some friendly fire but careful positioning will prevent most if not all of it, and you generally only want one Ruthless ship anyway because Defenders are expensive. Alternatively the TIE/SF might be a strong candidate thanks to the title allowing it to attack multiple targets, but since those targets have to be on opposite sides of the TIE you're at greater risk of Ruthlessness hurting your own ships. I've also seen a swarm of Ruthless Black Squadron Pilots do some work, although I believe they ultimately lost to a (pre-nerf) Phantom after easily slaughtering all of Whisper's allies.

Ran it on Quickdraw and did nine damage in one round.

It's good on most Imperial ships that already have action economy and don't need to take VI.

IMO Ruthlessness is not worth its points in 100 point games. However, in epic, it can be a powerhouse.

Last weekend there was a small team epic tournament, six teams and three swiss rounds. Never before have I seen epic games end in under three hours with one side completely destroyed.

The winning team had nine Ruthless TIE/D Glaives, two with Tractor Beams and the rest with Ion Cannons. Howlrunner and Jonus provided rerolls. Average MoV was +314 points.

Ruthlessness as a card is great, however due to its release prior to wave 6 (Scum faction released) it is imperial only , even though there's an actual bounty hunter on the card art!

The same can be said about rebel captive, however that cards flavour goes out the window when you have an imp mirror match anyway.

If Ruthlessness were a Scum or imperial only it would be great, it feels much more like the tricky things that Scum does in the game.

I had always wanted to try out brobots with ruthlessness but sadly it will never be (unless they errata it to include Scum as well)

As for relevant ships to play it on, I agree with the comments above that Oicunn is possibly the best target for Ruthlessness within the imperial faction.

Great thoughts; I can start to see its ability used on a few ships that might be out on their own or a main target of the opposition. I'm thinking of trying it on these two first (Decimator seems almost an auto include, upon reading you guys):

1) Vessery D seems to be the guy with a target on his back, but his ability may require me to move it to another D pilot to protect the TL support ship

2) QuickDraw (I don't yet own one though...)

Rebel Captive for Scum is easily translatable. Just picture it as a crime boss you are trying to save, or a favorite gang leader. The guy who knows where the money is stashed. No one wants him dead.
