you mean "why doesn't the ARC have a native boost?"
Why does the Punisher have native boost?
Hoping lightened frame helps the punishers defensively. Could be great...

Unless it's a mod, in which case it's basically useless to them, except maybe Deathrain.
I suspect it's a mod
Guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.

Look at all those engines on that sucker! How can it not have it?
Seriously, though, it would've been better with SLAM. Still, having at least a Boost to get closer is better than not.

would've had a reason to exist with SLAM outside of just being a **** bomber, you mean
seriously, the punisher is probably one of the most bafflingly designed ships in the game. It really is just an overpriced Tie bomber with a system slot and boost instead of b-roll. It's like no one knew what they were doing with the **** thing
except Deathrain, that guy is a goddamn inspiration
There is a local guy that loves Tie Punishers. I've been tweaking a mission that revolves around 4 of them and a Gozanti trying to blow up a Pirate Base. I still need to test it with the latest tweaks, but have been working on other projects. It is pretty fun in that regard.

Yeah, the generics will never work unless they get major fixes for that reason. Redline is fine, he can still pull out some nice alpha damage.

Given the space available there, I think it might well be a title, actually. There's not room in that top line for "TIE only. Modification."
If it was an alternative title that would make life a LOT more interesting...
Boost does allow the ship to reposition a bit early on in the match. I used Boost extensively in an Epic match to reposition 8 Tie Punishers for when they would be jousting the next round or two. It has it's uses, but once you are in position you aren't boosting as you are trying to get that target lock.
You can see the match here:

It doesn't need one. Dat wingspan makes it all powerful.
Ok on a more serious note, it is one of those design features that will never be explained. FFG moves in mysterious ways.
I think it's a vestige of earlier design that didn't make it into the final product.
Remember that retracted article that had K-Wings dropping bombs before performing slams? I'm guessing that Punishers were originally supposed to be able to do the same thing, only with boost. Perform your manuever, then boost away after dropping a seismic charge or some other drop-before-maneuver bomb.
Then, for some reason, they decided not to allow ships to drop bombs as part of post-maneuver movement. The boost action remained on the dial, maybe as an oversight. That's my theory, anyway.

You can still use Advanced Sensors to boost before dropping a bomb, thereby angeling it. Its pretty fun, just not all that usefull when its 30+ points for a low PS ship.
Insert cool FGD picture of arcdodging Deathrain here.
Also to differentiate it from the Bomber and because it has five engines taped to its back.
I believe the cockpit section has an engine as well, like the bomber. Each engine also has two exhaust nozzles, not that it matters, just pointing it out.
The punisher could benifit from a title that gives it an evade after boosting.
It has boost since it originally was going to be the Gunboat or Missile Boat and FFG chickened out
But seriously I guess they gave it boost to give it some sort of different repositioning that the Bomber lacks, to make it worth the extra cost.
And for all that are saying it is to make up for only having 3speed moves, then I guess due to boost it now has a 5 speed move, so is faster than several fast ships that have 4s and not 5s

ah the nostalgia

**** me, this moment is going to be a year old soon
and now I feel old
also, slightly (jan 2016) more recent and FAR less impressive TLT dodge
Nice paint job.
Seriously, what's the point?
My first concern wasn't that it has a boost action,
but that it had the same number of hull as the bomber...
What!?!
Edited by gabe69velasquezBoth the K-Wing and the TIE Punisher are Homermobiles. They were just a bunch of ideas that sounded cool slapped together. Fortunately for the K-Wing, it got a combination that at least made a goofy looking but functional ship. The TIE Punisher did not get that kind of combination.
The good news is that when FFG finally releases the Missile Boat, it will be that much more awesome when compared to its pack of hotdogs cousin.
Eh...see nothing sounds cool for the punisher outside the named pilot abilities
Everything else is stuff we've had before
The K, though? Freaking SLAM and ASLAM
And wingspan ofc
Edited by ficklegreendiceA sensor slot is pretty neat but aside from FCS nothing is really 'good' on the punisher and nothing really comes close to any EPT that could have been on it. The K-wing has a turret and the punisher gets....an extra bomb slot? Heck a crew slot would have made the punisher much better instead of an extra bomb slot that will more than likely never get used. The boost is pretty cool on the punisher and can have its uses. But as other have said before it doesn't bring anything that can't be brough cheaper by a bomber aside from a boost and a systemslot which aren't worth it imo. The punisher is still a fun ship to fly though.
I think the Punisher unfortunately came out too early, if it came out now I'm sure it would have a 0/1pt title which did something to make it a more interesting/viable bomb carrier.
