More Prequel Ships (N- 1, Jedi Starfighter, and the Clone Gunship)

By Frage, in X-Wing

I originally wrote this artical on my google plus community X-Wing Miniatures: 151st Squadron, thought I'd see the reaction here. Three prequel ships I'm dying to see in this game:

So many Prequel ships, only one in X-Wing (two if we are counting the Y-Wing). Why aren't there more? I have no idea. But Republic, CIS, and other various ships would look very good as miniatures. The ones I chose are only Republic, so let's take a look at the possibilities:

Eta-2 Actis-class starfighter, also known as the Jedi Interceptor or Jedi Starfighter was the last variant I know of. It replaced the Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor as their mainstream ship of choice, and, other than apparent vulnerability to buzz droids, it seemed to do the job well. This would bring many interesting pilots into the mix, Pre-Darth Vader anakin skywalker (I would suspect he'd have a barrel roll involved skill), Obi Wan (of course), Ahsoka Tano (if we are getting into the clone wars show), The Jedi's regional Jamaican (Kit Fisto), and even Master Yoda Himself! The possibilities with pilots for this ship are endless, or at least pretty dang cool, even having a "Jedi Padawan" pilot as the generic ship name would be great! I would think specs would focus highly on maneuverability. Maybe a 2 attack, 4 (or maybe even 5) maneuver, 2 hull, and 0 shields? (I might be wrong but I do not remember shields). All in all it would make for great aces.

Episode I. In my opinion the least terrible of the prequels, maybe even...dare I say it?...Somewhat decent? or slightly ok? Nah. Won't go that far. But! it did bring us something, new, something...sexy...like an Aston Martin in space... The N- 1. It takes sexy to space. The N- 1, besides being sexy, also proved itself to be a formidable starfighter. In the battle over Naboo, these ships managed to take out a blockade ship of the Trade Federation, from the inside! Sure they had help from Little Annie and R2, but who cares? It's sexy and effective! (Just like if you have a hot nerdy girlfriend!) Pilots are numerous, including pod racing Anakin, "Bravo Flight" Pilots, and, after the battle of endor, Queen Soruna of Naboo, Shara Bey, and even Leia Organa flew the ship. I suspect the stats would be something along the lines of 2 attack, 3 agility, 2or3 hull, 2or3 shield. It also had room for torpedos! And since R2 already repairs shields, you can recreate the movie! This ship, as evidence from Leia Organa and Shara Bey, also appeared after the rebel alliance was created! So the actual possibility is there! And...it's just...so, so sexy.

Now for something far less sexy, but still awesome, the Low Altitude Assault Transport (LAAT), or better known as the Clone Gunship. This, like the other two, was used during the reign of the Empire. As this ship is not a fighter, it could be a very potent Tank type ship like the ARC-170. I believe the Gunship would have a 360 degree firing arc like the Falcon. It also housed forward facing rockets and had a compliment 3 gunners! (or in other words 3 crew). This ship would be a floating platform of shooting everything. Slow, Bulky, and very customizable. I believe this would have 3 attack, 1 agility (if that), 6-8 hull, and 0-2 shields.

So, which would you like most to see? Jedi everywhere? Super Sexy? Or an iconic ship of Star Wars: the Clone Wars?

The clone Gunship, hmm yes.

Like having helicopters face F-22 raptors...

No thank you.

Yes please.

Yes please.

What he said (for all 3 ships and then some)

If they bring them in to the game, and they quit @#$_&-+* the game up balance wise, I'll get back into it. LAAT/I so sweeeet.

I do not think fully prequel era pilots/ships are necessarily going to appear in the game, unless it's possible they were around for a while afterward. Though Ventress is in, so who knows.

N-1 for rebels seems like a solid bet. Stat-line probably like an X-wing, but with one less attack die, but the barrel roll action (because spinning is a good trick). Astro, Torps. Because it's been canonically used in the modern era, it seems like an ideal place for Leia to appear as a pilot, maybe get Shara in something other than an ARC (assuming she doesn't end up in a A at some point). I'd be willing to bet money it eventually ends up in XWM.

The Eta-2 would almost assuredly be appearing for Scum or Imps, probably imps. If it appears as at all. Yeah, sure, Jedi starfighter. But the Jedi were dead and gone for 20 years, and Vader rode around in his Eta-2 for a while. But, this would then make it hard to differentiate from other Imperial ships (what, it's a TIE with a Cannon slot?), and then complicates the design space with the Astromech issue. Same problem with the V-Wing, another ship supposedly used by the imperials for a long time after the Clone Wars. Does FFG want a third breed of Astromech out there in the world Do the ships carrying it actually do something interesting in the game? This is a thorny proposition I don't want to stake a bet on. There are a lot more designs which LFL would probably approve which could do things for the Imperials.

Before the U-Wing was detailed, after the ARC-170 was announced, I would have said the LAAT was a surefire bet for Rebels. Could even use the old Battlefront II name as an excuse for the Title, "Alliance Assault Craft". But, now that the U-Wing is a thing, the LAAT/I would cramp that design space a little (Though I could still see it doing something interesting, such as using the Missile Slot, and having the 180 arc like the YV, and more native attack dice). And then we run into the approval problem, the LAAT/I is a "low altitude" transport, it's an airspeeder - stats for the Age of Rebellion RPG (all of that stuff which is roughly approved by LFL) give it a max altitude cap of 100 km, it technically is not a spaceship and that might raise some questions in the game. Love the vehicle though, just not so sure of it's certainty with new material in the setting.

i did some stat ideas here,

https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/233111-old-republic-yet-again/

the N-1 i feel is a PDF ship and not suitable for galaxy wide wars

if FFG ever does these it would have to be 4th (and 5th) factions, too many republic ships fall on opposite sides of the galactic civil war and it's a sin if they cant fight on the same side

No. /thread

The problem with the ETA-2 is they are so tiny, they would probably have to put 2 in a pack for them to feel worthwhile.

I think if we just labeled them as ships from TCW people would be much more receptive towards their inclusion.

After all, the prequels are irredeemable trash, while TCW is greatness.

The time gap is already wonky with TFA ships, and TCW ships were in limited use during the GCW, so I don't see why not.

If you're really ambitious, CIS and GAR factions wouldn't be impossible.

LAATi is easily the sexiest design in prequels. A HIND in space. Love it. Not sure it would suit X-Wing though. ETA 2 is 2nd for me.

A LAAT would go right alongside the FO transport and DX-9 as some sort of "base assault/boarding" set.
