It does look like fun and make me think about my games of Battletech back in High School. Still, BF1 just came out and I'm slave to that for the moment.
MW2 will always be the best MW game to me.....
I miss Ghostbear add-on.
Mechwarrior three was my JAMS.
SRMs over a hilltop.
It's just gross.in a way I'm glad missles don't act like that so much in this incarnation.
This game requires genuine skill and incredible patience/self control.
Rambo doesn't last long in this game. Doesnt mean it isn't exciting.
Its just....mmmm...deeper. a different exciting.

Y'know, chadwick, if you have access to Battletech minis, their new evolution of the game - Alpha Strike - is a TON of fun....
And my friend is always trying to get me to play MWO. But I just have serious... uh... problems with video games, in that I can't stop playing them until I've done everything (literally, I slept 17 hours in five days after starting up Fallout 4) and any kind of online game is way too much.
I have the old books, but not the minis. Not even the paper ones. I've gotten my son into DnD. That and X-wing take up all my game time. Maybe when he's a little older he will want to blow things up with mechs more than DnD.
You can easily buy the mechs alpha strike has four piece sets in plastic, the latest edition of battletech comes with over 20 plastic models and metals can be got from ironwind in the States or ral partha in the uk.
As a tabletop mechwarrior for twenty years the online has no hope of holding me. Came back from Origins once with a southern accent due to total immersion at the table for boot camp table with a guy from Kentucky.
Well there's a new game coming the kickstarter was to add a single player campaign and we funded that pretty quickly it'll be closer to the tt .

I'll admit that's a good thing. Hopefully they do a good translation.
Ghost Bear!!!
Already playing.
Always preferred MechCommander - didn't need fast reactions

I enjoyed that one too. So many reloads trying to capture that first Mad Cat.

Yeah...if I didn't use the cheat
to get it straightaway, I usually ended up decoying it out and then dropping artillery strikes right under its nose...sometimes worked, but not always - but more often worked on the mission where there was one on top of the far range of hills
Still play it from time-to-time, on one of my remaining XP machines
Hey ianmiddy, ever try the horribly boring online where everybody drove the same missile boat mechs all the time? I got raged upon by my own team for taking Cougars and Kitfoxes outfitted with AC20s. At least until I shutdown, waited for an opponent to walk by, and ambushed his mechs at point blank range... Vaporizing him. Opponent rage quit.
No, never tried it online...isn't there a LAN, or maybe an RS232, option ? - think I may have tried that 10+yrs ago when I worked with someone else who enjoyed it, but I might be getting mixed up with something else...
...I was always happy enough playing against the AI - it could be predictable, but it only needed a slight miscalculation in route or positioning for it to do something unexpected
...oh, and for me, the main reason to go after the MadCat was for the Clan ER PPC's - loved those things...I nearly always sold any AutoCannons I got, except the light ones for sniping
No, think you're right about the LAN option... But there was a way to play online with strangers.... In the worst meta situation ever. Not a fun environment, so you didn't miss much.

Unless they've radically changed things in the last year, the grind is pretty intense. Particularly for new players; if you go into the game expecting to buy whichever mech tickles your fancy and have some pew pews, well. You'll spend all your credits on, I don't know, a Cicada (assuming it hasn't been buffed) and be baffled when people running Stormcrows (or whatever the medium apex predator is these days) tear you apart. And then you'll have used all your newbie bonus bucks and have to actually grind for new gear.
I mean, on the plus side you'll get relegated to garbage tier pretty quickly and see fewer of the apex predators, but...
Yeah, anyone planning to get into the game really should do some reading about what good/great/optimal builds look like before buying a mech. Any mech.
Mwo is pretty brutal when you first start you imagine a big mech can soak massive damage then you run out in the open and die in seconds.
But when you get good it's very fun.
I'm closing in on 200 mechs 95% bought with in game credits , just bought two hellbringers because i got one free.
Grind on wot is far more punishing than Mechwarrior.

That's good... Quit WoT due to the grind.
Wake me when the Corax is added...
Battlemechs the king of the battlefield? From where I sit all I see are targets...

I'll have to check it out sometime. Don't have fundage now, but one day I plan on having the mythical spare cash. I pretty much just want the old stuff. I don't like this whole tribes from the Outer Rim coming back. I'm an old school player.
You mean you are a filthy spheroid surat.
But that's cool the plastics are based on The classic metal minis using the same molds, first edition used crappy plastic the second current boxed set however uses hard plastic and looks great.
Interestingly, CGL FINALLY reached a point where they can actually claim 'fair use' for those older designs, and not just use them but reimagine them. I really like what they've done with the Shadow Hawk , and the Marauder is giving me the urge to sell all my old metal ones in anticipation of the new design.
They are recognizably what they are (unlike the original Project Phoenix 'redesigns' *spits*), but now they look like Battletech designs, not just a random collection from four different anime designers.
Supposedly the new plastic boxed set will be the classics versus Clanners. But thus far I've been disappointed in two boxed sets and it remains to be seen when and if this is happening.
