Happy Friday

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

It is a great day today, Heroes dropped got some and wave 9 is really fun. We are in an excellent time to be a table top gamer, I still can't believe how fun this game is and that FFG NAILED the table top gaming scene.

So be better then excellent friends, be outstanding to each other and ourselves, have a good trick or treat weekend and see you all on the flip side.

Have fun Cubanboy!

After a bit of a hiatus away from the game thanks to summery weather and a bunch of holidays abroad seeing the new ships at Spiel Essen gave me an itch that needs to be scratched.

Hey guys. Happy Friday! Since the Gaming Club I host meets every Friday, it is a great chance to relax and be worth friends. Keep positive spirits and relax from whatever turmoils the week has placed upon you. Happy Friday, God bless.

Happy Friday! I had a good time last night. I got to play the CR-90 campaign and it was pretty fun. I did talk to Jbot quite a bit about a tournament that only allowed 1 unique pilot to be flown by someone in the whole event. So, only 1 Soontir Fel and only 1 Emperor. Do it like a draft pick and most likely you can't build a meta list. Should be fun to try.

That does sound interesting.

Happy Friday to everyone. In our country we have public holiday today. Afternoon I am going to pick up my Heroes of the Resistence Box and play some boardgames with my friends and wife. I will definatelly enjoy the day! I hope you all too.

Happy skyrim special edition day all.

Happy Friday? Nope. I've got to drive the family 6 hours down to North Carolina instead of going to my FLGS and picking up Heroes of the Resitance. :(

Planes exist dude pack em off and you do you.

Happy skyrim special edition day all.

Hahah yup, Swag

Where in NC? Cubanboy and I are in Charlotte. If you come by this way, go to Parker, Banner, Kent, and Wayne (or PBKW) in Cornelius. It's off I-77.

Now, I did crush a Tie Fighter by just reaching across the table to move something. It was on the dead pile, but I hadn't knocked it over like I usually do. So, I just kind of crushed it with my chest.

As for the tournament idea, we kind of fleshed it out. It would be best to do at a major tournament, like GenCon, but we can't afford that and are too far away. So, the next best thing would be to have it at our local game store. It can hold about 40....wait...did he say players or tables? That makes a difference as 40 tables means 80 players. Well, I should probably just aim for 40 players to start with. The idea would be to have a draft pick session. It would best to do live and in one location, but if we aren't doing it at a major event, we would probably have to do it over the internet. I thought about doing it on a Friday night and then have the tournament the next day, but that pretty much means those from out of town would have to get 2 hotels and it might mean someone can't travel in time after work on Friday. So...probably do things over the internet.

With the draft, we would have 1 unique for the whole game. So....a Dengar pick means either the crew of the pilot, but only 1 version of him in the whole tournament. Same for Sabine. One person picks her, but can use her for either Scum or Rebels for any of the number of ships that she can fly or crew. J-bot and I also talked about taking it one step further. What about limiting the over used upgrade cards? So...with 40 people, we could go with limiting various upgrades. Let's say only 5 Push The Limits out there. You have to pick one as part of your draft. The list of cards to limit would be (so far, but can certainly add more):

  • 5 Push the Limit
  • 5 Veteran Instincts
  • 2 Lone Wolf
  • 5 Tactician
  • 5 Crackshot
  • 5 Recon Specialist
  • 10 Guidance Chips
  • 5 Twin Laser Turrets
  • 5 Engine Upgrades
  • 5 Stealth Devices
  • 5 Autothrusters
  • 2 Royal Guard titles
  • 1 Advanced Cloaking Device
  • 5 Heavy Scyk titles
  • 5 /X7 Tie Defender titles
  • 5 /D Tie Defender titles

Randomize the players to put them in order. Start at the top and everyone gets one pick. Move down the list. Once at the bottom, you give the last person another choice and then go back up towards the top (so, if at the end, you will pick your 2nd sooner). Continue this way until everyone has their list. You don't have to actually use what you pick. So, if you don't want to see Palpatine, you can take him as a choice, but just not field him! This would particularly be good if you have a generic ship list in mind and want to mess with other people.

I particularly like this idea as if you want to go with a Soontir Fel, you probably can't build the super version of him. If you take Soontir Fel, your chances of getting a PTL for him will be hard. Maybe you can get the Royal Guard title, though. You most certainly won't get the Emperor or the Inquisitor for your list.

The overall idea is to just force people to take non-meta list ideas. The most OP stuff wouldn't be able to happen. Crackshot is limited and you wouldn't be able to take a whole list of them. I think it would be a hoot to have people picking these middling guys and working their best with them. Lots of these guys are sub par when compared to the big shots or perhaps can't hang against the big shots, but if those guys aren't even around, then the middling guys can really shine. I'd love to see some mid PS pilots for ships you never see. Maybe even a Tie Advanced without Darth Vader! Or Garven Dreis! I mentioned him last night and someone didn't even know who that was!

Anyways....that's the general idea.

That picture makes me a sad panda.

Happy Friday all!

Only got in one game last night, but I was flying Biophysical's double TIE/D list. More specifically:

Rexlar Brath

- Predator

- TB

- Hull Upgrade

- TIE/D

Maarek Steele

- Predator

- Ion Cannon

- Hull Upgrade

- TIE/D

Academy Pilot

Total: 100

Went up against a triple Rebel list consisting of Nera, Jake, and a Sabine-bombing Warden. Man, TIE/D's do nasty things to those poor low agility ships. Even Jake I managed to catch at range 3 with a focus and evade. Rexlar's shots stripped all his tokens, then Maarek proceeded to ion him and do an additional point of damage, stripping his shields. The next round, he utterly died. Rexlar got hit hard by cluster mines and proton Torps, but had 2 hull left at the end of the game. These guys can just lock down small-based ships and mulch them. It ain't pretty.

Wooo Friday!

im actually not playing starwars today, im playing startrek lol.

Bought Startrek Ascendancy last friday and im gonna play it today. Apparently one of my friends and his 16yr old son were actually interested in this game, which is great for me because theyre probably the easiest to arrange a time with lol.

....is it 5pm yet? im fine with going to work but this 8hrs of waiting to go home sucks balls.

:(

Is it that time of the week again?

ALREADY?

Where the hell is the time going?

Happy Friday Cubanboy!

Fridays are such fun when you ram-raid your FLGS at 5pm, take a third of their stock of new X-Wing products, throw money at them then race home to tear the packaging open with your teeth...

Race home? i dont even do that i just go to the tables in the back and crack everything open there lol

Indeed it is good be a gamer today.

10 years ago: "We need some Star Wars games."

Now: "Holy crap I need more money for all these Star Wars games!"

Two games played this afternoon. Results shared equally between me and Ashley. Scum 1, traitorous Rebel defector 1.

Ashley's got a thing for ARCs and K-Wings now. Norra's making me grind my teeth.

Heading off on a weekend on the Michigan shore of the big lake, forget its name ... ;)

I have HotR on reserve but finally picked up my first (and prolly only) Jumpmaster. Looking forward to a casual game or two with friends next week, though.

Let's have a safe Halloween weekend, okay? And if the Cubs win the World Series I don't want to see the city burned to ground. Celebrate responsibly.

Liking for the Tournament idea.... poor Tie Pancake. Looks glueable though.

New York bar exam results finally released, and for me and a little over 6000 other folks, it is a happy Friday indeed.
