Imperial help

By Blood_of_Kings, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hello

My LGS has started a skirmish campaign and I am 0-3.

My list is;

Grand Inquisitor

Blaise

Vet Officer

Vet Infiltrators

heavy storm troopers

heavy storm troopers with targeting computer.

I have been facing a lot of Luke and Leia with Gideon.

Any help is appreciated.

Play 2x Elite Stormtroopers. That's your backbone. Play Zillo Technique.

Don't play both Blaise and Grand Inq - they support different play styles.

Don't play 2 groups of Heavies, 0-1 is enough.

Play 1 or 2 Regular Officers instead of the Elite version.

You've got 19 points to build from the base of 2 eStorm + rOfficer + Zillo, but don't deviate from that base in Imperial without good reason.

Nickv is right. You have several good options with those last 19 points

Base squad:

9 eStorms

9 eStorms

2 rOfficer

1 Zillo Technique

Now as Nick said, you have 19 more points to spend...

Option 1: Damage Output

8 Bossk

8 rHKs

2 rOfficer

1 Temporary Alliance

....lots of damage output...but be careful, because those HKs die easily. However, the HKs are great for taking down Luke & Leia from range and making them reroll their X-Men.

Option 2: Durability

8 rRoyal Guards

8 eHeavies

2 rOfficer

1 Targeting Computer (for the Heavies)

....more durable, but if your Heavies can't do enough damage you'll have a harder time killing pieces than with Option 1.

Option 3: White-Dice Hatred

9 Inquisitor

8 rHKs

1 Temporary Alliance

1 Rule by Fear

....HKs and the Inquisitor LOVE to fight units with White dice (Luke, Leia, Davith, eSabs, etc), so if you want to deal with those squads then this squad could do it well. An alternative is that you could drop Rule by Fear and Zillo for another rOfficer, but giving up Zillo is a big deal, so you really need to consider the tactical value of that extra Officer.

Option 4: Spy Kids

6 Blaise

7 eISB Infiltrator

2 rOfficer

2 rOfficer

1 Crosstraining (for one eStorm group)

1 Crosstraining (for the other eStorm group)

....Command Cards with the Spy trait are great, and this squad allows you to use them very well. Blaise is very useful (don't forget about all his abilities, some of which activate outside of his turn), but also very fragile. Crosstraining on your eStorms allows them to choose the White die (hoping for X-Men) when they're down to 1 Health left, and it also allows you to treat them as Spies for the purpose of your Command Cards (which should be focused primarily on Spy cards and then the normal Trooper cards (Reinforcements x2 and Grenadier),

You can play around with all of these, and depending on your playstyle and preferences and experience, any of them could work very well.

What is a skirmish campaign, what are the rules?

The store owner drew up a branching tree from top to bottom with different mission cards in different slots. One group of players for each faction. We meet on Wednesdays, play a Red vs Blue game. Whichever faction wins the most games chooses the direction down or sideways that most benefits their faction (closer to their win condition at the bottom of the pyramid). Its designed to promote Imperial Assault through organized game play. Lots of players and opportunity to discuss and learn the game in real time with an in person community.

Its very fun. Its been what I look forward to every week for a month now.

Wow, sounds awesome. Could post a pic of the 'campaign' tree?

sounds fun, it would be cool to see the organizational part of it, in case I could ever run something similar for our guys

if you really want to jus kick luke and leia butt run mercs squad with hk's and gideon and c3po as base.

But if your gonna go imperials.

1. Hk arn't a great filler unless your running general sorin with comms. Without the focus they really lack enough punch.

2. You do not have to run 2 elite stormtrooper groups. You can run snowtroopers 2. ' The thing about running troopers is you can reinforce the squads and it can be hard to kill off the whole squad if you spread out. Thus denying points.

3. Blaise and inquisitor is a little too greedy. There is not enough room in the command deck for both. You have to pick one to lead you.

4. One huge problem running 2 heavies is that they are sooo slow. You need reg officers to push them along to take objectives and get into the fight.

5. always run zillo for imperials its jus too good

Its hard to give you specific tips vs luke and leia teams till you really decide what your gonna play. But the general idea fighting them is you gotta focus em down before they can heal up. Its very hard to stop them from shooting at you. They have good movement and accuracy. You have to position your troops very well to murder them after they step in for the shot or hide behind corners so they can't shoot at you.

I was playing

Luke

Leia

Obi Wan

Davith

Gideon + Diplo

3PO

R2

and got pretty handily destroyed by the following imperial list that is sort of similar to your above one:

9▪ The Grand Inquisitor
6▪ Agent Blaise
9Elite Stormtrooper
1Cross Training
7Elite ISB Infiltrator
7Elite ISB Infiltrator
1▪ Rule by Fear

Though I think it would do even better if you just replaced Quizzy for another group of eTroopers.

I too would be interested in seeing the campaign branch for this.

That was a good game and it is a list that I switched things around on multiple times. This iteration of the list was born out of my friends grabbing something that I wanted such as the second group of elite stormtroopers and zillo, however; this list did run really well and I do think I will use the iteration of this list again.

The inquisitor will always draw some amount of attention so if you can dance him around just at the edge of threat range, it forces the opponent to react to his position in some way while the spies wage a war of attrition and hits of opportunity born out of the position the inquisitor gives.

Also due to friends grabbing things I went without take initiative and negation, but with blaise negation really isn't as important but take initiative would have helped.
