My local store is having a sale on all the W:I products. I've done a lot of reading about the game and want to get into it while I can get it cheaply. How many of each core set and chapter pack should I pick up?
Purchase Suggetions?
Hi!
It depends on the "level" you wanna reach ![]()
The thing is...For heavy/competitive builds, I guess, you should get at least 2x everything. Invasion's common deckbuilding is pretty solid and it tends to have 3x everything.
The best thing is to get 3x Core Sets and then take a look at the Battle packs spoliers and get the 3x of the ones you like.
To start, pick up a single copy, try it and then make a good final decision. ![]()
i agree with Mr Cooper....
get 1 coreset and maybe 1 each of the Battle Packs and give the game a try...
if u really like it and u want to explore deck building more then go get another copy of each....
altho i have 3 copies of each..... u DONT need 3...
2 copies of each will give u really good deck building options.....
I'd add that with the "purchasing news" (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=1022) you won't have any problem once the new cycle will start... ![]()
Let's fight man. War has come. ![]()
I'm a fan of the Skaven from the minis... how many of each chapter pack would I need to be able to play the Skaven?
The Skaven are not a fully playable race, in the sense they dfo not posses their own capitol board or race loyalty symbol. When this cycle is complete however you should be able to make a deck that is primarily Skaven units with choice cards from the other Destruction aligned races to fill out any wholes you may have. I'd suggest x3 of the battle packs and x1 of the Core Set (for the capitol board you will be using).
Though you could/can probably absolutely skip the second battle pack, as there is nothing skaven-y about it at all. Maybe buy ONE of those...

Chittering Horde has the potential to be freaking awesome depending on how many more Skaven cards they decide to print though.
the 2nd BP also had "Poison Wind Globadiers" which is a skaven unit....
Chittering Hordes would b deverstating in a mostly shaven deck
If you really want to play, you should pick up 3 of each pack (including the coreset) to have a playset of everything. Soon this will go down to 1 pack a month based on the new announcement.
Unfortunately the Skaven aren't their own faction (they are destruction only neutrals) and won't be playable until more cards are released.
How the heck did i mis those cards? ... there was something the second BP doesn't have that the first did... hmm....
If you are going Skaven you need to buy 1 copy of the first battlepack and 3 copies of the second battlepack.
A good Skaven deck HAS to have 3 copies of Chittering Horde.
For reference heres what each release has thus far.
Core Set
- No Skaven cards
- Destruction Boards and cards
Skavenblight BP
- 1 copy Skaven Hero
- 3 copies Skaven Unit
- 3 copies Skaven equipment
Path of the Zealot BP
- 1 copy Skaven Unit
- 1 copy Skaven Tactic
Skaven is going to be a really powerful, quick deck in the future. The only downside is that Skaven units tend to be FRAGILE with only 1 Hitpoint. Another downside is the Skaven reliance on SELF CORRUPTION. Being able to uncorrupt/restore only once per turn makes Skaven a slow reloading shotgun coupled with the fact that Destruction has no corruption restoration cards (and will probably never have corruption restoration cards) Skaven is a tricky deck to play. Also, all Skaven cards will have a base cost without loyalty cost reduction, which means that concentrating on your Kingdom Zone may be important.
But Skaven mixed with Chaos/Orc will probably be the strongest deck build after this first block of Battlepacks, in my personal opinion.
Thanks everyone, especially FiendishDevil. Very helpful.
