How To K-Wing?

By brettdavis1991, in X-Wing

You could (and imo should) pick up an arc and you could run a double regen with norra and Miranda. You could run a fully loaded norra or you could down grade to any arc since r2d2 is the reason for the regen. But norra hits the hardest causing a distraction if you will allowing you to fly miranda around the outskirts using tlt.

Have you put your faith in Miranda Doni?

If you fly Miranda with TLT and C3P0 you will find that she is just a game changer.

Now if you want something a little different try this

2x Warden with ABT, Advanced Slam, EM, Bombardier, CN, CM

Rebel Operative with Sabine and TLT

It wrecks aces because its all about auto damage and no green dice. It does suffer to high HP lists with turrets, so I am not sure its viable in a tournament scene. Though I think I will try to swap the CM for another set of CN as Fickle suggests. PM or CM just seem so random every time I use them I get at least one great drop that is a total wiff because of dice.

Warden + Sabine + EM + Conners + ASLAM + autoblaster turret

I have more fun with this than with Miranda.

I've used it in two games, one against a palp ace list and another against three imperial aces and the value I got with it was immense.

Between the bombs and the autoblaster, it really has to make an opponent think about where they move.

Its cheap enough that it leaves you a decent enough amount of points to play with. I currently run it with an Arc-angel Nora list and biggs. Once HOTR drops I will swap biggs for Tarn + M9-G8

Check out some of the regionals/nova open vids on how to play K-wings:

Just to add my 2 cents to what has already been said, your main choices are bombs w/ AdvSL and/or Miranda w/ TLT.

Warden w/ Sabine, Conners, Seismic/Thermals, EM, AdvSL, (ABT)

Miranda w/ TLT, (C3PO), LRS

Miranda w/ TLT , Sabine, Conners, Seismic/Thermals, EM, AdvSL

Thermals are almost always worth the extra point if you can find it. It makes some ships who don't normally care about the 1-2 damage care about the stress. I flew the 3rd option along side a loaded (but Phantom-less) Kanan throughout Regionals, making top 8 once and top 16 3 times (9th, 3rd, 5th and 11th after swiss iirc). And its funny how even playing the same list my strategy with her evolved and completely changed through out the 4 regionals.

It started with charging head on, opening up the ability for early bombs, but also taking more damage. In general, I was more aggressive early through the 2016 regionals. What I was finding was that the targets I wanted to bomb were breaking off to prevent themselves from getting bombed (smart of them), so it was actually reducing the incoming fire by being aggressive. Furthermore, but charging at them, I was weaving through the rock field, and their movements were much more telegraphed, allowing me to bomb more than just the ship itself - I could get the open path in front of them. The better players recognized the danger that Miranda presented and went for her first instead of the 57pt Kanan.

And I pretty much only ever lost if they went for Miranda first. So as the season went on, I modified my approach to be more defensive, using the TLT, SLAM, and EU on Kanan to play a bunch of misdirection, and getting them into a pursuit mode. At which point a 2 turn slammed into a 2 turn would typically put them in a rough position - do they stay where they are, warying that I'll bomb them the next turn, or do they boost / br to get into a position that I can't get to, and eat a shot from Kanan. I will say that I think my record was perfect when I got at least 3 bombs off, but there were plenty of games where I'd get 1-2 bombs off and still win - they were just more brute force wins than creative flying wins.

As for the Warden, I found that without a turret, it's kinda lack luster. And with a TLT turret, it's too expensive. I've heard good things about the ABT though. The thing with the Warden is that you have to play it real smart - you don't want it dying early game, but its too much of your squad to leave out of play waiting for the opportunity to strike.
