Launch kits - "No room at the Cantina.. move along"

By FourHorsemenComics, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hey gang...

We signed up with our Distributor of choice for this launch kit literally within 10 minutes of getting the email solicitation from said distributor. Fast forward to yesterday when I called in to verify the delivery date of our kit only to be told "Sorry chum, we only got 4 from Fantasy Flight and you didn't make the cut" ... The words were different, but the amount is the actual amount I was quoted. Four. For one of the major distributors in the country.

I can't seem to find any posts or threads of anyone else having trouble getting these launch kits so I'm kind of thinking I'm getting the fuzzy end of the lollipop. My question today is: Did anyone else have problems getting their kit ordered or is it really only us?

Follow-up question for FFG: When this was floated to the distributors, were they told at the time of that solicitation how many they would be getting?

Thanks!

What country would that be? In the Netherlands my FLGS has a copy and 2 stores in Belgium have it. And to be fair Europe didn't get much love from FFG up untill Asmodee pulled a big pouch of dooku. So now we do!!!!!!!!!!!

There have been a few stores in New England that had to cancel their events because they didn't get the kit, so it's not just you.

There seem to be a fair amount of kits in Toronto. With at least 4 stores running launch parties.

Our store in NW PA told us the same thing. Thankfully there is on in a nearby town we can go to. But I really think FFG underestimated the interest in Destiny.

I just called my store in Kansas City, and they are not getting it either. I am VERY disappointed in FFG. As a high school teacher and sponsor of our Board Game Club, I have been promoting this launch party for the last month. I'm going to have many frustrated/upset high schoolers. Not a good way to treat potentially loyal customers or launch a new game.

Which KC store? I was going to try to go to the one at TT, but I know another store was planning on running one too.

Limited Figures isn't getting the launch kit anymore. I hope Table Top gets one, but I'm waiting to hear for sure.

You can't blame FFG at this point as you don't know why this is happening. For sure they probably underestimated the demand for these kits. However, if the distributor pulled the products from the retailers and juggled around who got it, then your beef is with them. It sucks, but on the bright side, it looks like this game is really going to take off.

The shop owner said FFG is generally very good to work with, so it may be the distributor, but most likely a lack of supply. I just regret promoting the launch party so aggressively with my students. Several seniors asked off of work for the launch party. They’ll be frustrated when they hear its canceled, and will be less likely to take off for future events.

It may not be entirely FFG’s fault, and maybe not at all, but it is a shame to start out this way. And I do hope the game takes off like crazy. I’ve been very impressed with the game mechanics and spoiled cards thus far.

I just called Table Top, and they confirmed that they are getting a kit. At least one shop in KC will have it!

Yeah, that is unfortunate that it has worked out that way. If I were you I would still try and host an event once the starters are out and get people involved. Definitely sending you props for working on community building. Best of luck.

It looks like the store I'm going to believes they got their kit in time.

Given the market of Magic, Heroclix, Pokémon, etc being so tournament heavy, FFG really needs to ensure they maintain a tournament scene. It would be very difficult to succeed in this space with mout a tournament/organized play presence.

This is product they literally had airlifted from China early. It is going to be limited because it was expensive to get here. There will be plenty with the full launch and they already have tournament support kits for January.

Its good to hear they'll have enough product at launch. Do we have a date for the full launch yet? I do still want to have a launch party at our store...just going to be good and sure we have product before I announce it.

If product for the pre release party is air lifted in, at huge cost. That suggests the bulk travelling ocean freight is a long way off. Which suggests no November world wide launch date. So December before I get my hands on it? No worries I'm patient, I can wait.

Unless the first run has been on the boat and the pre-release is the airlifted first part of the second run.

The full run went on the boat on 9/29 according to their upcoming page. It usually takes 6-8 weeks before it ships to distributors, and then another 2 weeks before stores can get it and sell it.

Please note, I am no insider. I'm just very familiar with the process as I follow several FFG games and have for the past 3 years.
