Nice idea but how about if it stresses an enemy ship or all enemy ships at range 1-2 of that overkilled. Basically they are scared having seen a friend obliterated.

Both ideas are cool. Would be interesting to see how often you could get it to go off without messing yourself up.

Just make the destroyed ships act like they have DMS.

When dealing damage, enemy ships must deal [kaboom] damage before [boom] damage (to avoid leftover crits flying about too much, and to give it a bit of a penalty when shooting shields). After a ship you are attacking has been destroyed, you MUST apply any remaining damage to another ship of your choice at range 1 of the defender.
