Combat and its use

By KDW, in Battlestar Galactica

Can someone give me a quick run down on why the ships are used and what combat has to do with this game? I could see the game being played with just skill cards and we are sitting down to play for the first time in an hour or so? I just dont understand the concept of these little ships and stuff.

Thanks

Well, it gives pilots something to do. Cylon ships are part of the game in the same way skill check crises are part of the game; you deal with them appropriately or lose resources. The humans are not always under siege from cylon ships, and that is not the human's only problem thematically; sometimes there are more mundane problems like food and water.

So, the damage tokens are derived from combat ? This affects the part of the game that says the Cylon Objective is to win using one of three methods, and the third is galactica destroyed?

Is this pretty easy to figure out during the game? It looks difficult. My daughter is the pilot, and she is only 12. Any words of advice?

It's all in the (very simple) rules. My advice would be to pay close attention to the movement and attack rules for cylon raiders.

Intercept and destroy them. Good hunting!
