Unspoiled HoTR cards

I would guess if you get to the end of the attack and the token hasn't been spent for any effect, then you just lose it.

There go Esege's tokens.

It doesn't say anything about just losing the token. It may be modfifying 0 eyeballs but it still is being spent for an effect.

It says "spend...if able", so if you got one, it is gone. If Esege has one, it is gone.

You are correct. It doesn't say lose it, but there must be a consequence for not spending the token during the timing specified. In other words, use it or lose it. You can't tell me that if you were the player using Hotshot Copilot, that you wouldn't insist on the focus token being removed, especially if the opponenent tried to avoid spending it.

As far as I can tell, unless something actively prohibits the focus token from being spent such as OL, it is gone, you have to spend it.

The FAQ is quite clear that you may spend tokens even if there's nothing to modify. Hotshot Copilot just changes the may to a must.

If they did something like use Accuracy Corrector so that they became unable to spend the token, I'd be fine with that. If they forgot to modify their results, I would remind them that they needed to modify their results unless they had something else that they could spend the token on during the attack.

The card specifies that you must spend a token at some point during the attack or defense, it does not specify that the token must be spent to convert an eyeball. Spending from Weapons Guidance is spending during the attack, Sensor Cluster is spending during the defense, spending to trigger Kanan's ability is during the defense, etc.

Spending prior to the target becoming the defender is not, so is off the table.

But you're not required to spend it on a usable result. If for some reason you wanted to ignore your sensor cluster and spend it to modify the zero eyeballs that you rolled, well, the wording doesn't seem to prohibit doing so.

Indeed. I'm forced to spend the token "whilst attacking", but whether I spend it the "classic" way, or on Calculation, or on Weapons Guidance, or whatever the hell else options I may have, isn't mandated.

What I can't do is choose to go right through the attack step and not spend it. So you can use Poe Dameron's ability, provided you actually spend the token afterwards (so using Poe to convert a single focus to a hit, then spending the token on weapons guidance to convert a blank to a hit, is perfectly legal. Just using Poe's 'mini focus' and retaining the token isn't).

If they did something like use Accuracy Corrector so that they became unable to spend the token, I'd be fine with that. If they forgot to modify their results, I would remind them that they needed to modify their results unless they had something else that they could spend the token on during the attack.

They still skipped a step where they can spend the focus, though. They rolled dice, and could have spent focus before triggering accuracy corrector (which they might have done, for example, if they'd rolled 3 focus results).

It's less of an issue, more because someone using accuracy corrector generally evades or target locks precisely because they don't need the focus to 'fettle' their dice results.

It's definitely a nice card - and should pair up painfully well with Juke, Sensor Jammer, Gunner and so on. As noted, it'd going to be very annoying when a VCX-100 or VT-49 gets shot by a high PS pilot with a hotshot copilot.

Trick Shot will increase your attack value by 1 when you make an obstructed attack. It costs 0 pts.

Hot Shot Co-Pilot says that when you make an attack, the defender must spend a focus token if able. When you are defending, the attacker must spend a focus token if able. It costs 4pts.
