OCTGN January Tournament Pairings

By longclaw, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Since it's a holiday weekend and the first of this kind of tournament, I'm gonna give a little more time for the first game. Please email me with the following information by Tuesday, January 12:

  1. Match Winner
  2. House/Agenda played for each player

If you cannot reach your opponent in the next couple of days to schedule your match, please let me know and I'll try to facilitate. This will also allow me to know which of the players is actively "showing up" and thus win the match due to a "no show." My email is [email protected].

Please make sure you have all files up to date in the program, including the last set, Martell, so no complications arise from that.

I would like to collect decklists at the end of the tournament from each player as well.

Also, please keep in mind that you may be playing an opponent in a radically different time zone, so do your best to work out a time to play with each other. In the event of a disconnect or any other technical difficulty which occurs to prevent game play from proceeding (which is very rare, but unfortunately needs to be addressed until the system can save the game state somehow and allow re-entry back into the game), please follow these guidelines.

Discuss up front with your opponent how you might handle a technical problem should it occur, using the following recommedations:

  1. Should time allow, a good way to handle it would be to treat the player who disconnects as a loser in the first game of a best two out of three.
  2. If time does not allow for best of 3 games, players should agree up front that winner will be determined on board position if the disconnecting player was losing. If the disconnecting player was winning or the board position was roughly even, the game should be reset.

Make every effort to resolve a situation like this with your opponent, but remember that as TD, I will make final decisions should the need arise for mediating disputes. If a game that I am involved in has a dispute, finitesquarewell will make any necessary rulings.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions!

Thx for your work! I'm writing you a mail to manage our match :-)

One thing that I think is important specify. Have we to keep the same deck for all the tournament?

In my opinion we can change deck every round but inside one round (usually I think 3 matches at best) we have to maintain the same one.

What do you think?

ciao

Hey Lars! You can contact me via email (eloiprieto at gmail dot com) or via msn messenger (epi_vs_blas at hotmail dot com). My timezone is GMT+1 so it will be quite difficult to arrange it... but let's try! I'll wait for your answer :)

Ah, sorry, I probably should have mentioned this, but I thought it understood. We'll run this like a "normal" tournament, meaning keep the same deck throughout. Also, to clarify, the best of three suggestion should only be used as a last resort in case of a technical difficulty which hopefully won't arise. It's an imperfect means to balance potential problems, nothing more. So one game matches, keeping the same deck for the duration of the tournament.

I love the idea of match play for a whole tournament, but I'm not sure our first venture is the place for that. Maybe later. happy.gif

yeah, definitely keep the same deck throughout

K perfect!!! Let's battle :-)

First round:

Gualdo vs Longclaw

Greyjoy/Winter Agenda vs Martell

Longclaw won and was in control much of the game. I made a great error keeping one gold forgotting my marauder with support :-)

I didn't draw very well but the deck of longclaw was surely better than mine cause he draw a lot and with orphan and Oasis slow me a lot. In one turn I thought I was invincible but Viper's revenge blocked me :-)

After this we made a friendly match Targaryen vs Stark.

I waited all games to play Valar in the right moment... I would be destructive... BUT... longclaw played Red Wedding and having initiative won ;-)

Great player - Great Games :-)

bump......and apparently I have to type a bit more as just the "bump" was too short to post.

Alright, Letsgored and I got to play our games and I won the first two. I'll post a more detailed look at the games this weekend at some point.

Also, sorry letsgored! I think we got disconnected or something when we were talking after the game. For the record, I agree with you on the taking control part. That does seem a bit over the top!

Gil and I just finished our first round match with me using Bara and him using a Stark/Winter deck. My Bara deck won though the game could have been very different had I not gotten lucky and discarded one of his critical cards during a 1st round intrigue challenge. Was a lot of fun and great to meet another player on the other side of the world

Alright, so Letsgored and I decided to do the best out of 3. He was playing a Stark Treaty with the Isles deck(and from everything I've seen, this and the martell treaty agenda don't offer anywhere near the pros to outweigh the huge con of your opponent only needing 10 power to win the game) and I was using a lanni kneel deck. I flopped a card in shadows, cersei(the one that works off of shadows) and something else. I forget what. Letsgored flopped Wendymyr, Dagmer, and someone else. I was really freakin' worried about Wendymyr, but as luck would have it, Letsgored played a milk of the poppy on my Cersei. Which I then promptly moved to his Wendymyr with Compelled by the Rock. Unlucky for me he had another milk. :( I managed to pull out a kneel or two a turn to kneel pretty much the key dude he needed to win the challenge he wanted each round. He did hit two of my locations early with that new PTTT. Luckily I had two insidious ways and a couple Lanni Pays His Debts throughout the game. I also had Tommen out all game just drawing me a free card.

I won that one and went into game 2 thinking that my deck was gonna crap out on me. Thankfully it didn't. I did soil my breeches when Wintertime Marauders entered the field though. Bastards! I managed to keep them knelt most of the game though with Tywin + Alchemists Guild Hall. Man that combo is awesome! The final nail in Letsgored's coffin this game was me using Tywin to keep bouncing his Arya back into the shadows. That let me actually kill someone rather than let Arya soak claim all day.

All in all I would say that we were pretty evenly matched with my draw and his agenda giving me the upperhand. I still feel dirty for using Lanni instead of Bara. :(

and so it was that after round one, the DC meta twn2dn/dan, myself, and our feisty n00b, themountainthatrides/steve is undefeated. ;-)

I'm not really that feisty... :)

what do these forums have against punctuation? that's a fairly annoying bug

I've sent an email to my partner with no response. Wade Freeman, if you are out there, lets get this game underway. I'm an easy win. It'll look good on your record. :)

Round 1

  1. Lars vs. eloooooooi

1. Lars

2. Lars = Bara/NA; eloooooooi = bara/treaty of the south

Figured I've give this a bump get it back to the front page. Has Round 1 finished up?

I believe we are still waiting on results for games 1, 5, and 7. they have four more days to get them in.

My game was a no-show, but I already emailed longclaw the details.

Sorry for the delay. Dobbler was trying to get in touch with Cha0s to get their game played (the deadline was yesterday for the first round) so this is a slight extension. We shouldn't have to do this for round 2.

But Cha0s, if you're out there...?

Look for round 2 pairings by tomorrow at the latest.
