I was thinking. Since the JM5k combo is dead, wouldn't R5-D8 be a better choice on Biggs then R5-K6. It seems to me that more than 2 hits per attack are gonna be much less present now since the nerf.
Thoughts?

R4-D6 is a cheap shield upgrade that occasionally cancels more damage. Giving Biggs an action and rng dependent regen droid is loading him up with wasted points that could be spent elsewhere.
An argument could be made for R5 perhaps.
r5-d8?
that absolute trash mech that only works on a green die roll?
might as well throw 3 points of nothing on him while you're at it
R5-D8 is..... to work, he's specifically relevant to face-down damage cards. Which means he wants to be on something with the potential to take many face-down damage cards (Biggs can only ever take 2 before either he's dead or his astromech is, compared to 5 on a Y-wing or ARC-170).
Secondly, R5-D8's ability needs an action to trigger. An action which might, or might not, fix a point of damage is probably less useful than a focus action which has about the same probability of stopping the next point of damage.
The best use I've seen for him (and it's not amazing) is on PTL Jek Porkins - Jek's ability causes hits under the shields, and he has the 'spare' actions to potentially fix them with.

It does trigger 5/8ths of the time, which is better than the odd on most abilities that require a roll.
If it were either an action or a roll it might be okay. Being both kills it though.
the problem with the repair droid is with the exception of the ARC, everything that can take him either REALLY doesnt want him (ywings due to bad greens) or has so few hull that by the time you get to use him you probably already shot him out the chutes to avoid death.
Ive thought about putting him on a non-norra arc, specifically Thane, but Thane might as well be Biggs lol he never gets that free action for me.

hey now, ARCs don't want him either
they get the same access to far superior droids as everyone else
The timing on R5-D8 is also very bad for Biggs. It doesn't trigger until the round after you take damage. As an action it isn't that much better than taking a focus token would be and you are paying 3 points for it.
Edited by WWHSDR2-F2 for Biggs
I did see him on a TLT Y-wing once. It's probably the best use I can think of.

Either he's not being shot at - so he has no damage cards to remove with R5-D8.
Or he is being shot at - in which case he's not getting his free action(s).
The only extra actions (outside VTs obviously) ive put on Thane for good use is R7T1. Reason being, if you didnt shoot at him and he got an action, hes probably in range1 now and has a TL on somebody. It also further concretes his biggsability because thats a scary thought lol
Indeed. R7-T1 is a very nice idea - a mid-combat-phase boost is as nasty as a mid-combat-phase barrel roll.
As an added bonus, it might even allow him to set up a free target lock for next turn - because whilst you can only perform a target lock action once per turn, R7-T1 is just 'acquiring a lock' - so if he's already fired at PS4, and an academy pilot or what have you gets to shoot, he can then boost and lock someone up for next turn.
Yup. I both love and hate that TL is only an action if you use your actionbar to do it. Love because of things like that and Tarn where he just acquires TLs all day, hate because it also means it cant be blocked by stress.
Im still waiting for a mod called "Redundancy" or something like that (actually might be an EPT) where you can do a single action twice in the same round. Double barrelroll would sidestep SO WIDE lol
If they removed the need for it to be an action, just had it as an end of turn activation it may have been worth it but as it is, I have never once come up against this droid.
Regards
That's a porkins droid right there.

This will never happen, thankfully.
For everything else, there's already Attani Mindlink...
Is there any merit to R2-D6 + Determination Biggs? He'll be able to use Integrated Astromech to toss the droid to block an untimely Direct Hit, but still keeps Determination to throw away a Pilot crit. It's one more point, which could be a deal breaker. I want to try it out, but I hate formation flying at the moment.
R2-D6 + Determination is even more situational than R4-D6 and costs and extra point for the EPT. IIRC about 8 cards of the damage deck are Pilot critcals so the odds of Biggs taking a crit and it being a pilot card are fairly slim. Nice if it happens but probably a lot less likely than 3+ hits for R4-D6.
What can work sometimes is R2-D6 + Adaptability which allows you to go to PS4 or PS6. This means that against some lists like Crack Swarms or Brobots, you can plat Zombie Biggs.

It might be useful if the dark side condition from the Kylo shuttle becomes a popular choice...
