More expensive version of flotillas

By Ophion, in Star Wars: Armada

Recently Ive been trying both the combat retrofit GR75 and the assault carrier Gozanti.

I sort of wrote these off initially, but have been pretty happy with them.

The blue antisquad covers a much bigger area whereas the black on the cheaper version only seems to help if the flotilla itself is being attacked.

And the gun battery opens up a lot more options with some objectives.

Anyone running these and finding them ok?

I've run one of either type in my Vader fleet. I've found the red dice a bit underwhelming, but the blue anti squadron complementso the black. I even had Kallus on it in one game and it was a cheap and rather effective as setup.

the gr75 combat retrofit seems incredibly silly, but someone ran like five of them with Toryn on the bright hope

not AS silly, then

and also like a TLRC cr-90 and Defiance, because Defiance is waiting for your entire fleet to activate

I was pretty successful with running combat Gozantis in a Vader fleet. The ability to throw 2 red rerollable dice is a nice addition for the price.

I have used a Gozanti Assault Carrier as a sniper ship. Concentrate fire 2 reds setting up Avenger ISD.

I ran a quite silly 6 Gozanti 1 VSD super squadrons fleet last night (500 points, for extra jank). With Tarkin around, those red dice can add up. They're not extremely strong but over time they do, if concentrated, start to add up. Extra fun with Opening Salvo, too. The blue flak is also more consistently useful (although not as deadly, it depends on how safe you want the flotillas to be).

I think of the Assault Carrier Gozantis as the kind of upgrade you should consider if you're running numerous (3+) Gozantis. You'll be a bit lacking with your anti-ship with a setup like that and for 5 points each you can have them contribute. It's not a lot, but it can help.

gr75 combat with toryn is probably worth it... blue dice with reroll is equivelent-ish to black die AS wise so you are gaining a bunch of range.... the blue ship attack die can come up but is rather useless

Just remember that torn doesn't work on the ship she is sitting on

I quite enjoy using the Assault Carriers. I even used three in the armada contest. Yes, madness!

GR75 Combat retrofits in a Rieekan list. Use as a blocker to save more expensive ships, aim to line up the front arc on a key enemy ship and the side arc on squadrons. Pairs nicely with Slicer tools, which does not require any specific dial to activate. There's a synergy there in that you're going to have to fly close to your enemy to activate Slicer tools, and you might as well do some damage while you're at it.

I've also done the red die Gozanti in a Vader list, which is fun.

Well I ran two combat retrofit GR75s last night, one with bomber command, the other bright hope, toryn and a jamming field.

Of course the antiship shots did precisely nothing (my opponents Gozantis did pick off an embarrassing number of my corvettes and Admonitions shields though!)

But the blue antisquad at least tried to be useful.

Other finding from this game was using proxy corellian squadrons. Biggs and Xwings is definitely promising. With jamming field and toryn support they tanked a massive amount of squadron fire and ended up winning the squadron war.
