I will show you the dark side... or, wait not really?

So... The condition card forces you to search through the damage deck and get a pilot critical card. What happens if there is no pilot critical cards left? Let's say that some damage cards were dealt already and apparently there is no pilot card in the deck anymore. Unlikely? Maybe, but still possible.

What then? You shuffle cards from destroyed ships into the deck if possible? You cannot perform action and you choose another one?

This is a really good question.

I don't think there is a RAW answer, but my best guess by inference from other similar cases would be:

You're right that if there's no card in the draw pile, any discards should be checked through and drawn from. Whether you should be able to search the discards if there IS a pilot card in the draw pile is not clear. If neither has a pilot card, then the crew and pilot work differently.

Kylo Crew: the action fails if there's no card to draw, the action fails, so you reset it in the same way you do a TL that's out of range.

Kylo pilot: just fails to work. If he;'s triggered again once some more cards are discarded he might work.

This card might necessitate a minor rewrite of the deck management rules, or at least a better enforcement of the current ones.

My guess is that if there are no pilot crits left you are SoL. Discards don't get put back into the deck until there are no damage cards left.

Discards don't get put back into the deck until there are no damage cards left.

But in a way that's true in this case. There are no valid damage cards to draw from. It's also not ilke there's any other ability or effect that gets canceled because there aren't enough tokens or damage cards...

So I'd say at least there has to be some way for that ability to trigger... Only case I could see is if every pilot crit was already turned up and on the board...

The card reads: "[...] the player who asigned it searches the Damage deck for 1 Damage card with the Pilot trait and may place it faceup on this car. [...]"

I think the process is: you search for a card, and when you find none, you don't place it on the condition as it's not mandatory to do so.

And then the condition would be immediately discarded because no card is on it.

The damage deck. Which one? In competitive play at least there are two, one for each player.

Do you get to choose? Filter your own deck by assigning one of your cards to your opponent?

Of course, it makes sense and is probably intended to use the opponent's deck, but I won't be surprised if it shows up in an FAQ.

As the card already refers to 'you', the assignee, they might've rephrased 'the damage deck' to 'your damage deck' to prevent confusion.

Just thinking about that and such situation seems very unlikely, although it would be good to get some clarification. I am afraid that you just won't be able to complete that action, without using the discard deck.

And once again, FFG give us yet another messy interaction. <_<
