Biggs and the "Sponge" oh and Gallant Haven

By Ma22a, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

So this is probably more a question of timing more than anything else, but also my understanding of the wording on the card.

Here's the scenario, we have Luke, Biggs and a sponge (generic xwing)

Scenario 1

All ships are engaged and Luke is targeted and attacked by a TIE

3 blue rolled = 2 hits

Now are the defence tokens played before Biggs effect or after ?

Because if its after then 2 hits gets braced to 1 by Luke then Biggs palms off the other hit to the sponge.

Luke takes no damage

OR

Scenario 2

Luke hit for 2

Biggs palms off 1 to the sponge

Leaving 1 on Luke which can't be braced so therefore Luke takes one hit.

Now which is the correct way of playing this ? Because scenario 1 basically means that Luke can't be hit unless 3 damage is scored against him (which is obviously very nice)

Now let me throw in Gallant Haven into the mix too

Luke hit for 3

Brace to 2

Biggs to sponge for 1

Gallent Haven reduces the other 1

No damage to Luke

OR

Luke hit for 3

Biggs to sponge for 1

Gallant Haven for 1

Leaving Luke taking 1 damage.

The way i read it is essentially scenario One which makes Biggs a very very good card imo. But am I wrong or am I right ?

You are right.

Scenario 1 in both cases. Also, use a yt1300 as sponge.

Now I am not sure if we have been doing it wrong but we have always taken the point of damage from Gallant Haven off the top. So in the two examples it would have looked like

Luke hit for 3

Gallent Haven reduces it by 1 leaving 2

Brace to 1

Biggs to sponge for 1

No damage to Luke

OR

Luke hit for 3

Gallent Haven reduced it by 1 leaving 2

Biggs to sponge for 1

Leaving Luke taking 1 damage.

So after typing this out it did not make any difference in this example but what is the correct way to do it, or is this a players choice?

Hit

Brace

Gallant Haven

Now you get:

Hit

Brace

Gallant Haven

BIGGS

Or you could do Biggs before GH, since the timing is the same. Not sure there is any real difference.

No, I think you must use GH before Biggs, or the opportunity is gone.

#1

DEFENSE TOKENS ARE BEFORE SUFFERING DAMAGE. THE STANDARD RULES ON THE ATTACK FLOW APPLY.

So you will ALWAYS reduce the Damage Number from a brace token before EITHER Gallant Haven or Biggs applies....

Gallant Haven is "Before ... suffering damage from an attack..."

Biggs is "Before ... suffering damage during an attack..."

Both are "before suffering damage" triggers, and thus, you would choose their order...

But.

Once you Filter Damage through Biggs, it would be argued that the Damage is no longer from an attack ,.... It is during an attack still, but the damage is not from the attack, it from Biggs...

So Gallant Haven could not trigger off of Damage that Biggs is passing out. because he's not attacking you...

So timing with gallant, if you get hit with two damage, brace it to one, gallant soaks the last hit? I had always thought it triggered first which would still mean taking one damage. I'm sure this was answered above but I still want clarification on my dumbness.

Attacker Rolls Dice

Attacker Modifies Dice

Defender Spends Defense Token (in this case, brace)

Attacker resolves Critical Effect (irrelevant vs. Squadrons)

Attacker Determines Damage Points (Brace takes effect here)

Defender Takes damage 1 point at a time. (Gallant Haven takes effect immediately before this step.)

Brace takes effect when you calculate HOW much Damage.

Gallant Haven takes effect when you're ready to deal that Damage out.

Brace Happens First.

Thanks, and that's brutal lol

Yes, a Squadron with Braces to Spend is effectively immune to any hit that does less than 3 Baseline Damage, while protected with Gallant Haven.

1. Not allow engagement within GH's sphere of douchery

or

2. Kill GH. Kill it with fire!

Rhymer made GH obsolete before it was even born...

The big problem with GH is that it's not that hard to kill. Even with ECM. And that ideally you'd want to stick even more upgrades on it if you want it to be your carrier. Don't. GH+ECM+72 is enough points in that ship. Or maybe Lando. But let something else be your carrier. Yavaris. Flotillas.

Yep. Which is why the best way to handle squads protected by gallant haven is either to;

1. Not allow engagement within GH's sphere of douchery

or

2. Kill GH. Kill it with fire!

Or just throw a dart to pop that big ugly balloon.

Great idea!

But I don't think darts are allowed...

My darts are called raiders

Great idea!

But I don't think darts are allowed...

What if your laser it attached to a dart?
