ARC's, K-wings or HotR?

By infyrana, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I'm pretty set which directions I'd like to go with Imperials and Scum thanks to some excellent advice here, but my choice with Rebels hasn't been so easy.

I'm interested in running either double ARC-170's, double K-Wings, a mix of the two (might allow me to try both directions later), or the new HotR set. My restrictions are that I only own the TFA core for rebels and I'm not looking to buy any more than one of the listed combos. I realise I'm missing out on Biggs and R2 for now which is a bit of a killer, but my only other Rebel purchase until a later date will be Sabine's TIE for a fun filler.

Please could I ask for some suggestions of lists using the above combos of ships, plus which would be the more versatile combo? I'd prefer to look at lists using cards just out of the box, but at this point I'm open to any ideas :)

Thank you for your help!

The K-wing is the Rebel's best value for money, it flies well with any of the cards that come in the box.

The ARC is a great ship, but every pilot needs things that come in other sets. Norra likes PtL and R2-D2, Shara wants Weapons Engineer, Thane likes Biggs for a wingman, Braylen wants R3-A2. The ARC compliments players with a full selection of Rebels.

I expect HotR to be a great buy. It may need some things from other expansions, but not to the extent of the ARC. Different astromechs from various Rebel sets, and Engine Upgrade from the Falcon's original kit will definitely help HotR.

How much do you like flying X-wings? This is very much a T-70 x-Pak. I'm excited for HOTR because I jumped in with TFA so don't own a Falcon yet. That being said, I agree that K-wings are the most versatile. Regen, bombs, ordnance, turret. They can be built a lot of different ways.

Hotr, k-wings, arc in that order.

Triple tlt k-wings is a decent list again in a world without torp scouts, as is miranda.

Hotr builds rey and adds several options to t70's

Thanks for the replies so far :)

@jmswood hey, it was your first post on my other thread that now has me interested in K-Wings! I get what you're saying about the ARC upgrade requirements, I'm trying to find the original core set going cheap for Biggs and R2, plus I've already considered grabbing PtL later on, I just wanted to avoid proxy'ing for as long as I could. Would you be able to help suggest a casual ARC or ARC+K-wing (if that works?) oriented list with minimal proxying of card upgrades please?

@Eyegor In honesty, X-Wings themselves really aren't my thing. I'm a CW fan so ARC's had me sold straight away, I also like the Ghost but pricey when you want other upgrades too. Having missed the original Falcon (Eng Upgr) I'm hoping that we will see some functional lists crop up when HotR is in use - if this runs well with the TFA core set, this might well be my easiest ticket.

@Ralgon Cheers, that's what I'm seeing, but I didn't want more than 2 K-Wings at the very most, ideally one with an ARC if that worked. With a strong direction hint towards HotR - are there any list ideas you could help suggest that would work well for casual gaming please?

The following should be fun to fly. I'm pretty sure that the only things you will need to proxy from this list are Adaptability and Integrated Astromech — both of which are 0-point upgrades and easy to proxy.

• Norra Wexley

astromech.png R3 Astromech (2)

• Esege Tuketu

• Red Squadron Veteran

If you can keep Norra and Esege reasonably close (within range 2) then Norra can use Esege's focus token to boost her own attacks. Esege can cover Norra's flanks with his TLT. Red Squadron Veteran can patrol and pick up stragglers — or you can send him off to harass ships you want to keep away from your named pilots until later.

As an alternative, you could drop the Red Squadron Vet down to Blue Squadron Novice with R5-X3 (useful with Integrated Astromech) and put some Proton Torpedoes on the T-70 — but I think BB-8 Red Vet as listed is probably more fun.

@stonestokes thanks, that's a great starting point! Any particular way you'd suggest playing it to get the most out of the list?

Keep Esege on the outside and in the back so that he can get TLT shots. Remember that Norra can use Esege's focus token. Try to focus fire with Norra and Red Vet as much as possible. Your ARC will die fast, so you need to do as much damage with her as possible before that happens. Your K is going to die second — it is ok to SLAM and give up a shot if it means that you get your opponent out of position and unable to shoot you either; otherwise, you want to get a shot in every turn. Once Norra dies, you can start letting Red Vet use Esege's focus token instead, so you don't want to split up too much unless it will take heat off of one of your ships to do so. Red Vet will probably be your last ship on the table. Don't be afraid to Talon Roll with him if you need to. Wired will help him when he does.

Edit: Focus with Esege every turn, even if you SLAM. The other two ships should always TL if they can — the exception is to boost or barrel roll if it gives you a firing arc you wouldn't otherwise have, or dodging a firing arc when you don't have one (both ships are ok with trading shots with other ships, so only dodge if you don't have an arc).

Edit 2: If you roll all blanks on Norra's attack, that is when you use your TL plus R3 to generate an evade token. A single hit probably isn't going to do any damage anyway, so save Esege's focus token for Red Vet.

Thank you, that's most helpful!

Out of the sets you've listed using just hotr rey with finn and the title with bb8 poe/ nein numb.

That still gives you 14+ points to hunt through your imp/scum sets for goodies like push the limit, autothusters (if you have a star viper) ect.

If not give poe primed thrusters to make sure he can get his focus and black one for defence and see what other goodies you can dig up for rey
