Understanding the new Armada campaign..

By FrogTrigger, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi guys, I am just curious about this new campaign expansion coming out for Armada. First off, is it co-op? Second, do you need more than one core set/expansions to play? IE can 5 people play off of one person's models or is this going to require everyone to own their own core+?

Obviously I have never played the game so sorry for the newb questions, but this is a chance to rope in a new player and grow your community, thanks.

Easy for me. Add new squadrons and objectives to my regular fleet. Put rest of stuff away. Simple enough.

While I'd like to play the actual campaign, finding someone with the time here is almost impossible.

The Core of the Campaign is still to play 400-500 point games of Armada.

So each player is going to have to be able to assemble their own Fleet.... Which generally means each player will have their own collection of models and a Core Set for the Damage Decks and Such. It would have to be a rather large collection to assume one person could provide everything... Its theoretically possible, but its not intended or designed that way.

The Campaign isn't so much a way to introduce people to the game, its moreso to get the people who play the game to come together TO play...

It is a competitive Campaign, as such - Up to 3 Players each side... But within each side, you are cooperating with your team-mates.

Competitive between Sides. Cooperative within Sides...

You should be able to do 5 players as long as you have enough for a rebel fleet and an imperial fleet. Part of the draw of the campaign is that your fleet grows and gets modified through the campaign, so you probably want more than the bare minimum fleets.

as for co-op, its team based, so you would have teams of two or three.

Rumor is there will be a massive 1000+ point fleet at the end, so you will need more than 1 persons models to accommodate that, unless they have a huge collection. If you are unsure what you need right now, check out the fleet generation websites and tinker around with a 500 point fleet with all the expansions. That can give you a feel for what you may want in the future.

Also, get some games in with some friends to better understand your play style. I like rebels, so my Imp ships sit around doing nothing the majority of the time. You can always try to split expansions with friends if you want to save money. Or, when CC comes out, buy packs as your fleet expands.

Didn't admiral Nelson have a large enough collection?

Do I remember correctly something about stickers being included?

Does that suggest that this will be like a legacy game where you will only get one play through per box?

The Idea is that the Locations on the Map are Stickered when you build a base there.

But we've already brainstormed so many ways around that.

Awesome. I will have to seek out said brainstorming.

Remember to not be afraid of proxies! Trace bases onto a cardboard box and print out pictures of the bases and paste them to the cut outs. You now have functional proxy ships! Print out cardstock versions of cards from KDY and you have proxies of upgrades and ship cards.

This game is meant to be played from home, I am confident that if you WANTED you could buy the $30 CC set and proxy literally ALL of the rest of the components.

It wouldn't be as pretty as plastic space ships.

But since it isn't a tournament, and there isn't an OP rep checking your product to make sure it is official, you can be as liberal as you want with your proxies.

Id have no problem fielding 1000 points of Imperials. The issue is finding an opponent.....

Yea I was more interested if this was something I could pick up and run for friends like IA, Descent or MoM, but if it requires everyone owning their own set then I will bow out. I know of one person in the city who owns Armada and has failed to find anyone to play with him at our LGS, X-Wing and Guildball are king around here.

I appreciate all of your comments and clarification though, perhaps one day I will join you guys. Great community though. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that Frog, what city if I might ask? Could a symptom of ships in the night, although I do know some places are just odd like that.

I'm sure I could field 1000 points for both Imperials and rebels - if you tend to get 2 of everything it's not hard at all.
