x-wings and bomber command

By Imperial Navy Hairdresser, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Heyo, this might have already been discussed to death but I'm kinda new to the forums so here goes.

My thinking is that xwangs have great anti squadron capability and OKish bomber capability. With 1 bomber command this still isn't super but with 2 (and I frequently run 2 transports) your chance of scoring at least 1 damage goes up to nice levels. Thus you could just take a whole load of xwings and get them to do every job:

1 bomber command has about 87% chance of damage which is pretty good (I swear my red dice must be cursed!)

2 bomber commands and you're up to about 95%, or 1 out of 20 rolls is a fail.

The disadvantage to this is that you really shouldn't try fishing for crits, if that's what you want.

Thoughts? Anyone actually tried this? I did once, against a similarly weird list that was like cryptonite to squadron heavy lists and so I died horribly. Maybe I should do it again?

You'll mostly be doing 1 pt of damage, which is nothing much compared to the real bombers.

So taking a BCC to make X-wing bombing ok is smart, but trying to rely on them for primary damage.

I find it underwhelming.

So instead of 10 xwangs I should take 6 xwangs and 4 bwangs?

why not jan, dutch, XXXXXXX

you get some braces, some ace hunting, and you still all but guarantee 8 hits.

A couple of keys to BCC:

You get diminished returns for each additional BCC after one. It regularlizes your damage, yes, but you still pay 8 points for that second one. You could just as easily take a second squad or upgrade generics to aces for those point and still end up with a similar return on investment.

My sense is that BCC is best when you're planning on taking very dedicated bombers and going after ships. The more attacks against ships, the more Return-on-Investment from BCC.

Nah, just take Bwangs. Thats numberwang.

Dont forget toryn farr though for anti squadron fire. But then you may as well take bwangs for the blue dice anti ship...
