Greedo, Stroke of Brilliance. Discussion

By krzykoopa, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hello Everyone! The Grand Inquisitor discussion gave a nice mount of insight and since Obi was before that I thought why not finish off that pack wave before discussing other characters. Without further ado Greedo and his Command card (sorry for sizes)

4 Points Hunter-Smuggler 7 Health 5 speed 2 G ranged attack W defense die. Inherent +1 Ac and Dam! 3 surges- bleed, +3 acc,+ 2 dam. Now if that was all this guy would be in EVERY scum list but there is that drawback of slow on the draw. I have used Greedo a lot and played some wild games where that white die comes up X at just the right time and Greedo is the MVP for only 4 points. For me though more often then not he doesn't perform as good as I want. Now I never feel like he is a wasted 4 points I just want him to be more little more consistent.

Stroke of brilliance, Greedo's Command card is great, it cost 0 and is a huge defensive buffer on him. Of course having it in hand when he is being attacked is important and this for me adds to the inconsistency factor. Greedo is going to die but how fast? Hopefully he survives long enough to draw his card. I also cant tell you how many times I used this card after I declared an attack as opposed to on my opponents activation.

I said before Greedo is never a waste of points, If they have a melee character in play you don't have to worry about slow on the draw when attacking the character, of course you can mitigate the drawback to ranged characters by them not having line of sight but I feel this is difficult to pull off on who you want to attack and when you want to attack them.

I don't know if it is by design but when making my scum lists i always have 4-6 points left over and Greedo gets pushed in right at the end. I have not taken advantage of his traits much but I am very happy to have him as an option even with him being slow on the draw.

What about your thoughts? Is Greedo not even worth adding in? Is there some strategy with him I don't know about? If you play him do you include his Command card? How many times has Greedo declared an attack only to make it his parting shot for you?

Pretty much this! He's the best low point filler available for Scum at the moment. Perhaps Jabba's Palace will change this, but I think Greedo will always have some sort of place due to sheer points efficiency.

I do tend to include his command card, but I'm hardly heartbroken if I can't fit in in.

I was skeptical at first, but after playing with him, he's one of my favorites. I actually think he's very consistent for what he is. He's a damage dealer that has to get hit first. The key with Greedo is who you target. Don't have him target 3 dice figures with accuracy. Melee figures are prime, creatures etc. but he does really well at taking out troops as well. His extra damage guarantees 3dmg but with him focused, I've seen him get up to 8 dmg.

Imperial assault is all about getting to 40, so if you sacrifice a 4 or figure to take out a higher pt figure, you're still ahead, so there are times when targeting a bigger pt figure is worth it. I sacrificed Greedo to take out Leia and one time to get Luke out of different games, so that was well worth it.

Because he hits hard, I don't mind using Element of Surprise, or Smuggle Supplies to help him be more effective. Stroke of Brilliance works well to keep him alive. He's also one of the figures I focus early because of his speed, he usually gets into the fray quickly. I will always take him over hired guns now and he's great for baiting other figures as well

Greedo is an absolute star for me, and has replaced Hired Guns (unless I bring both). He can both take and deal a lot more punishment than those and I rarely find that I really need both quick dudes. Most of my Scum lists starts with Greedo and soon, my first 10 points will be Jabba and Greedo. Then I have filled something in two roles for a quarter of my points (Support, Objective grabber). I can take more in those roles if I want to, but I don't think I need to.

I usually play his card because of the big boost it gives, but I've often wondered if playing the other +2 Block on out-of-turn attacks (Brace Yourself) would be better. It works on everyone, but doesn't give the surge cancel. Also doesn't work if they just shoot Greedo. With all the twins running around, it 'may' be worth it, to play both.

I'm kind of in the same boat that others have described: I was skeptical about him at first but now I really like him. SotD is a huge handicap and so (even more than most) you really need to use excellent positioning if you want to get the most out of him.

Depending on what my squad needs, I'll either take Greedo or sometimes a rNexu. I've hardly ever used Hired Guns.

And if I'm using Greedo then I pretty much always use Stroke of Brilliance. At 0 cost and with the huge help that it gives him , it's pretty much an auto-include for him.

Greedo is great but he can be hard to use well... a bad white dice roll and he can die very quickly.
If you're good at hiding him, then he's a great damage dealer.

His command card isn't worth a spot in the deck though. It's nice to keep him alive of course but I think there are just better cards that take priority over this one.

Greedo is pretty cheap. I wouldn't invest in keeping him alive.

I think he's pretty great and run him in most scum lists I build these days. I usually include his command card though I'm okay cutting it if I have other great options.

He's probably the most skill intensive figure to play as you really need to consider all the positions and possibilities for getting a good attack without getting shot back. I've been playing with him regularly with proxies since he was announced and still often see things I should have played differently to improve in this area. Creating diagonals with your own figures where he can slot in and have LoS without the opposing figure getting LoS back is pretty tricky but key to unlocking his power. Other times you can just have him run objectives with 5 speed or shoot melee characters and he's easily great there too.

So yesterday I played Greedo a lot and he was dubbed The freight train. "he hits like a train" was said and stuck with every attack. I focused him, used other units to block for LOS, and he was just brutal. I definitely started to think differently about him after the 3rd 8 damage roll in a row. His command card for me is a little bit of a problem, I agree with Inquisitorz that there is just better stuff, the issue I have with it is its timing. if it said "use during an attack" as opposed to "use when an attack is declared" I would love it but it doesn't :(. I actually would rather play the command card that makes figures not block LOS for an attack over his card.
