Wording question for Quarry: Chains that Rust

By Zelgadis, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Greetings folks,

Last week while I was the OL for the Quarry quest in Chains that Rust, we encountered an interesting situation for the "Ancient ritual" rules.

The "Ancient ritual" states that a large monster that ends its activation next to a cursed stone, he may pick it up and only carry one stone. If the monster with the stone token ends its activation next to the effigy, it may deposit token and the OL places the token in his play area.

The heroes I was playing against were taking out the large monsters with the tokens. We were wondering, does the monster drop the token or does it get destroyed? The rules do not state what happens with the token. We noticed that in many other quests, most quest items that defeated monsters or lieutenants carry, are dropped and they can either be picked up again by other monsters or the heroes (depends on quest).

We all agreed that the stone is dropped and another monster can pick it up. Is this an omission on FFG's part?

If the stone disappears if the monster is defeated, then the OL victory condition to collect 8 stones is gone and he can only win by knocking out all of the heroes.

Any thoughts?

Yep. Thats right.

I havent played Chains yet, but page 15 of the core rulebook says you are doing that correctly.

This game is all about overwriting the core rules, so there are often reasons to repeat things.

Any instance of "Carrying" can generally be reffered to page 15. With a few exceptions, but even those are written in the quest information.

Right. There are "default" rule for carrying objective tokens which apply unless the quest tells you to do different.
