The Shuttle

By dpb1298, in X-Wing

4 dice primary, can fit 3 of them in a list, and have 10 points left over for upgrades. I'm thinking-

Place dormitz, place his shuttle buddies at range 2, into the play area, and assign them focus tokens.

I'd have to check the speeds and ranges when I get home, but the ugly birds should be able to get pretty far across the board for a blitzkrieg.

Can't wait until we start seeing primary attack values of 5 or 6...

The rules are not a game effect. Go ahead and submit a rules question about this once the expansion is released, but until then let's assume they had a reason for going with the complicated wording they used instead of the much shorter text of Shara Bey's ability.

Even under Target Lock is says that if you do not have the Target Lock symbol you can get it from "another" game effect. The word "another" strongly implies that even a regular Target Lock is a game effect? Where are you seeing the definition to Game Effect?

Okay, sure. I mean, I think we've got plenty of evidence that the rules aren't written so carefully that we can assume the use of "another" instead of "a" in that sentence is intended to connote what you're reading into it, but yeah, I don't have anything strong to cite for my preferred interpretation either.

The rule that spells out how you can spend a Target Lock while attacking still isn't instructing you to spend one, though.

I agree that I was wrong and you cannot spend the U Shuttles target lock to reroll the dice.

For the rest I'm not sure what you mean. You may "spend" the target lock to reroll the dice.

Either way I think we agree even if our wording, or mine at least, is confusing.

Man, people are really overblowing this "complexity" thing. I mean, by X-Wing standards some of them are a little bit of a mouthful, but that's a GOOD thing, because it means it's a specific effect with specific conditions. Because I hear people complain about simple effects like Palpatine all the time. And I'm brand new to this hobby, I don't even own enough ships for a standard point list yet, so it's not necessarily a barrier to entry either. All the new conditions are unique too. God help us for bookkeeping if FFG releases a non-unique condition, but for now only one of each can be applied at a time. It's just like FGD said, it's no different than a bomb, or an effect like Tractor or Ion, just in a new form.

Y'all need to check out some other popular tabletop hobbies before we start whining too much. 40k has entire books of rules. Heck, I played a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh when I was younger, some of the stuff you can pull off in that game both then and now is bananas. And they use a lot smaller type-face.

Wow, General Hux is a serious card. He's worth 5 points, but it's too bad it precludes him from riding on a TIE shuttle. He's one of the most "pro-mook" cards in the game. He gives them action efficiency and allows one of them a good chance of punching through somebody's crazy defenses.

Interestingly, I think he kind of works well on a Firespray. If you can catch anybody in arc with an Ion Cannon equipped Krassis Trelix you stand a very good chance of an unblockable Ion shot for a damage and movement lockdown. You can do the same thing to supported bombers packing Ion Pulse Missiles with Hux on a more mundane ride. Use Long Range Scanners on the bombers to get the locks, give them Focus from Hux, and if the one with "Fanatical Devotion" catches someone, they get effectively 6 dice worth of chances to get a Focus result that is made unblockable.

For the record, we CAN make a combo that guarantees the hit. It's a bit stupid, mind, but any list that brings Palp, Hux, and an Ion packing ship can make it so.

Palp can change whatever die to an eyeball, which you focus, which now slams through.

Should you? I don't know, I'm not in a position to make those kind of judgements about people.

This doesn't work. You can't mod the die Palp mods.

I for one welcome our new First Order overlords.

This is yet more incentive for me to repaint my eventual fleet with First Order colors.

PS 2 generic shuttle looks a bit too cheap with 30 points. When I compare it with the Slaver with the same stats but one less attack die. So the dial of the shuttle must really be inferior to the slaver (which should be difficult to achieve)

Best to ignore the wider firing arc of the YT.... you know for reasons. Its worth a ton on a giant space whale to be able to actually shoot and the big arc allows that. looking at them side by side they the new shuttle feels really good to me...

Imperial ships look really good with the black and white scheme.

The bigger arc seems like a fair trade for the extra point of attack.

Is it just me or is each wave just oozing with more and more unnecessary complexities? Are they out of ideas for simple upgrades. For ezample VI and FCS. I have most of the ships and just play casually with friends. I worry as each new wave comes out my friends will lose interest in playing due to all these complexities of the new waves. Thoughts?

You play casually with your friends, if there is things you guys are finding to complicated dont use them? no one is forcing you to...

Totally agree. Also get the feeling this game is becoming less a miniatures dog fighting game and more a deck building combo game ...

Very much this

And really, nothing is so complex here that you cant understand ny just reading it

Even Hux can be broken down into two simply parts

1. His condition

2. Uber fleet officer

Which is fine because hes priced the same as two upgrades too :P

Besides, there is nothing in this game approaching the "complexity" of conner net which requires

Bomb rules

Upgrade card

Ion and ion reference

Conner net reference

But it plays out very simply on the table

But it plays out very simply on the table

You simply laugh at the schmuck that got it dropped on him?

Three times for optimal efficiency

Once for damage

Once for ionization

Once for missed action step

And once more if sabined

I dont think you know what a deck building game is... X-wing has cards but that is probably the only similarity to a deck building game, i have never once failed to draw my Darth Vader card costing me the game...

This is a miniatures game where you build your army/fleet or whatever and field it... always has been. I think the game you are looking for is chess where setup is identical each game.

i have never once failed to draw my Darth Vader card costing me the game...

That's one of the big reasons I play xwing now instead of magic: the gathering. Magic is fun but nothing is more frustrating than not drawing a key piece of your deck and losing outside of your control.

I don't think this will actually replace the Lambda. If someone is running Palp Aces, I think you'll still see the Majestic Alabaster Space Cow.

Not to say Imperials won't see some diversity, with the Ebony God of Batkind, but it's not really a Palp Shuttle. It's between the Palp Shuttle and the Palp Tank (Decimator)... But you'll see more Palp-less Upsilons than you do Lambdas.

I think you can use the new Shuttle for Palp aces just fine.

Basic generic pilot + Palp + PTL/Mk2 Ryad + standard Omega Leader adds up just nicely at 100 points.

And you get 2 of the best finishers in the game and Palp in a freaking battleship.

Of course worth it only in case the dial is decent, but with green 2 banks I think white hard turns are almost guaranteed..

I'm confused why people are so sure this thing will have a white 2 turn. Bomber also has a green 2 bank, and guess what color its 2 turn is? Often there is little association between maneuvers of the same speed on a ship. Attack Shuttle, Tie/SF, G1-A and B-wing all have green 1 straight and banks, red 1 hard. G1-A also has a green 3 straight but red 3 banks. Not saying it wont have a 2 white turn, but people seem to be jumping to that conclusion rather quickly.

Either way, I'm sure "Mega Palp Pocket Aces" will perform just fine.

Just hope the STAND is better than the one on the Ghost as actual game play with it really sucks...

also looks like battle foam storage for it will be a total pain in the Butt!!

Me too.

I hope it's more like Killer Queen and less like, say, Hermit Purple

whether or not I replace an ace in my triple ace imperial list with this shuttle will depend on its dial. With FCS and 4 reds it can do damage, but it's gonna need to stay in the fight long enough to do as much damage as an inquisitor or defender that would be filling it's place. Coordinate is a huge plus though, especially with PTL shenanigans.

Yeah, and it looks like they misspelled "law and order" as "terror" in the flavor text.

It's an easy mistake to make.

Some people are excited, some skeptical. That's fine. But boy am I excited! This ship looks like the change we need in the Imperial faction. I really hope this ship, and its upgrades, make palpatine less prevelent. I play TIE Swarms and Kenkirk/Whisper, so I'm looking foreward to more options than palp for the imperials.
