Shopping list & list for a new player?

By Vondodo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi everyone i am a starwars armada player, since i won 40 Euro of products in a small torunament i thought i could spend some more to get to play xwing when we are short on time....

Problem is i have to cash that prize in a couple of days and all starting guide i found were quite outdated.

I don't plan on spending too much on this since armada is already expensive :(

So i wonder what should i buy for 2 players (possibly different ships).

first of all wich starting set awakens or regular or both?

Thank you.

Go for the force awakens core set (the Blue one) to get yourself all that is needed to play, how much is that one in your local? the original core set is also good (it has Biggs for Rebels) but most people prefer the new damage deck and the T70.

depending on how much you have left, i'd go for the tie advanced prototype for Imperials and personally an A or B wing for Rebels (i'd go for rebel aces so you get both but this will depend on your available funds) or another T 70 x wing.

failing that get 2 core sets and then you have 2 x's, 2 normal ties and 2 First Order ties

It costs 40 and i'd like to spend about 100.

Would be enough buying the core set and 2 aces packs (rebels and imperial...not sure if they are still available) or its better to get what you said?

it depends on what you want to fly. Personally i would get TFA core set then Imperial Vets. for Rebels is would go Rebel aces along with a T70 (just for integrated astromech card) or wait for a few days and get the Heroes of the Resistance set for all kinds of falcon fun and shenanigans (Plus a PS9 Poe) or failing that the New Arc 170 looks to be holding its own in a few lists i've seen.

The imperial vets pack is awesome (Bomber and Defender) and is currently kicking all sorts of Butt in the current lists (well, x7 defender is anyways, i prefer the D Title for double tapping fun)

Each ship has its own Flavor and you may end up spending more than the 120 bucks to fly them how you'd like

Would be a good start. A-wing, B-wing, T-70 X-wing for rebels, Interceptors and TIE Fo's for Imps.

I personally would go for the Imperial Vets instead of Aces as I prefer the Defender/bomber combo.

Since i don't really want the millennium falcon, (for big ships i have armada i'd like to stick to small ships)

Could i go with these:

1 Core set TFA

1 Imperial Vets

1 Rebel Aces

Or i am missing something for 1 side (i just want to play with friends and have balance and a little replayability if possible).

Looks good to me. with the Tie/D, X7 and Tie shuttle it gives you Loads of differnt options to mold your list into how you like to play. i also love the Rebel pilots (Gemmer Sojan gets the most play time in my lists for sheer dice at range 1) and they can pack a punch if needed with the B wing and Cannons!!

I think in that match up, the Rebels are in favor. High PS aces (Poe, Keyan and Jake) will allow Rebels to dominate the game. I was trying to come up with some really good lists for Imperial side with this set or with Aces, but neither is the key here. Those aces and veterans pack has the downside of the fact that the upgrade cards are mostly limited to either faction. To picture that better, if you take Rebel Aces, Imperial Vets and TFA Core you get a great "fix" title for A-wings, which allow one to take 2 Elite Pilot Talent upgrade cards (instead of regular 1 if any). Nice, right? And you get 2 copies of this card! But... there are only two Elite Pilot Talent upgrade cards in all of those boxes... And that is not that nice.

I would suggest you to buy Tie Advanced Prototype, Tie Phantom and/or Special Forces TIE. Even if you buy just 2 out of those, you will get some interesting pilots of different Pilot Skill and useful abilities and you will be able to share the upgrade cards with Rebel side.

For Rebels, the aces pack is really nice, though for starting you need more cards that are available for both factions. I suggest to go for K-wing expansion plus B-wing or A-wing. This way you will be able to create really good squadrons. Ideally, you take the TFA core set and all 6 expansions (but I have no idea how much is it in total).

Have fun :)

Or, you can proxy cards - then take the Veterans and Aces.

Edit: corrected a mistake.

I was going to say TAP as well but then that adds another 15-20 bucks onto it.

Also i hate the Phantom so deliberatly stayed away from it (i have never managed to kill one in a normal game before, whisper just eats me alive!)

Proxying is amazing in a casual set up, a lot of squad builders allow you to print the lists with the relevant abilities, one thing i will say is the need to remember when you have it printed. with Cards its a bit easier as they are there, printed lists are good though. (autothrusters are awesome!) i do also love the K wing and Miranda's regen/slam shenanigans

My most recent posts over at The Arbitrary Nerd have recommended purchases for Competitive Rebels/Empire players, or a general setup for casual players, give it a gander.

Hi,

I started the game not long ago (1 month) and I had the same questioning because I want to play with friends who do not own any ship.

First 1 think you should definitely proxy cards, because in casual games it allows much more flexibility.

Secondly I would advise to get at least 4 different ships on each side so you can play around with different squadrons.

Personally on imperial side my favorites are TIE Phantom, TIE Defender and Tie advanced prototype (did not try the interceptor or bomber yet).
