Is no one else concerned about captured TIE?

By Sir Orrin, in X-Wing

Ahh... Viktus106 never claimed the U-Wing gave an action either... He was noting that the U-wing lacked that ability... May we call this whole side trip a misunderstanding and move on?

That said I think I prefer the TIE better as support myself simply for the price and simplicity of it. I can see the U-Wing providing MORE support with the extra crew slots, but it's going to be vulnerable and more points.

Then maybe I don't understand which job Ashoka is doing that can be done better by a U-Wing. Ashoka with VI, title, Captured TIE, and a three point crew comes in at the same cost as a naked PS2 U-Wing and can't be shot at by anything with a PS less than 10. That's a strong support piece for less than a quarter of your points.

The U can actually attack

Thats the gist of it, really. Ahsoka has good support, but as a captured tie she aint attacking or, otherwise, shes popped in 1 to 2 shots after having whisked away her focus

Is a free action ultimately worth 19 points?

When you look at it that way, theres not much to worry about

Pseudo deadeye will probably be her most useful function

Those are all points that a pretty well protected though. A support ship that makes your other ships hard to kill is usually the first target since it's using it's upgrades and actions to buff squadmates.

Jank support is still jank support though

And in a faction with biggs, targeting support aint easy

Unless you can really milk that one free action, more red dice will win more games

Asoka+Dutch Vander+ torpedoboats

And it's only lower ps iirc. Higher PS can shoot I think

Yeah, it'll trick an green Academy Pilot, but Soontir Fel will be able to spot the neon orange and yellow TIE and realize that something is ... amiss.

But not those contracted scouts, or Syndicate thugs, they just think that tie's an innocent imperial tie pilot that got horribly lost in space.

That's a backstory I want to see. Tie Fighter pilot gets lost and goes on this crazy ass journey through the galaxy trying to make his way home Star Trek Voyager style. Aliens paint his tie like a Yellow Submarine acid trip.

Considering a TIE* doesn't have a hyperdrive, they would have to basically be hitching their way back. Maybe do some merc fighting and smuggling to pay their way.

*Fighters , not Advanced, etc.

Dicey without biggs though

You're just adding flavor to the meat!

What I meant was, you can take Ashoka and hand out a free action to a single ship at range one or you can hand out up to three focus tokens or two focus tokens and a evade token for 27 points up to range two. Plus you have a ship with three attack, two agility (essentially), four hull and four shields.

I think I know what I would rather have in a list.

Depends on the list and what you're trying to do. They are both support ships, but they support in different ways. Doesn't make one better than the other outside of certain scenarios.

Personally, I'm just waiting until all the people who've never flown TIE Fighters before realize that loading one up with 23-27 points is a terrible idea. If I ever played Rebels (which I don't), I'd never let one of these TIEs get over 20 points. The title gives you soooo many options and it's going to be really tempting for people to try them all out at once.

That is until their first game and their 26 point TF gets popped in one shot by a mangler cannon and a bad green dice roll.

On a related note, the new Scyk title lets you field a 20 point PS2 ship with a mangler cannon that can really abuse TIE Fighters and their lack of shields with crits it gives you.

I think that's the reason for captured TIE. It lets you throw all the stuff on it, so you can use it before if gets shot at.

Have you looked at the Rebel stable of fighters? 20+ points is normal for us regardless of fragility.

Nothing's stopping you from throwing Jyn on Ashoka. If she's got a bunch of targets in arc during the activation phase use Jyn and pass the tokens. If she doesn't take a focus action and wait to the start of the combat phase. If using Jyn to pass tokens is the way to go at the time use her. If not spend the token to pass the action. Slice when it makes sense to do so.

The coolest thing about Ashoka to me is not having to decide what to do with that action until the start of the combat phase.
