Need Advice on HWK List

By brettdavis1991, in X-Wing

Hey there, just got a HWK the other day but i'm not really sure how I should use it or what i should bring to accompany it. Any advice or lists?

I have:

(Imperial) Tie Expansion

(Imperial) Tie Interceptor

(Imperial) Tie Advanced Expansion

(Rebel) X-Wing Expansion

(Rebel) HWK-290 Expansion

(Rebel) A-Wing Expansion

+core set
The guy i'm playing against has two core sets, tie advanced, tie defender, and tie bomber. I bet he will bring the defender because he hasn't tried it out yet.

Just from the HWK expansion, you can make the focus factory, comprising of Blaster Turret/Recon Specialist/Moldy Crow.

I have a preference for Kyle Katarn with this build, though any of the pilots will work.

The Ion Turret might be a better if you are going against a defender, but I would still suggest Recon Spec and title.

To go with the HWK, I would take Wedge, probably with R2-D2. Then Tycho with Push The Limit.

Was possibly thinking something like this. Making everyone high initiative but if he runs a mini swarm of academy pilots its not gonna be that helpful.

Roark Garnet (19)
Blaster Turret (4)
Moldy Crow (3)
Wedge Antilles (29)
Swarm Tactics (2)
R5 Astromech (1)
Rookie Pilot (21)
Rookie Pilot (21)
Total: 100

Ah, interesting potential interaction between Roark and Swarm Tactics, or raising both Rookies up to Ace level firing positions. Definitely worth a shot. If there is anyway to get recon spec on Roark, I would encourage you to consider it. That does sacrifice some firepower, so it comes down to your preference.

or this, but its a little short on firepower

Kyle Katarn (21)
Determination (1)
Blaster Turret (4)
Recon Specialist (3)
Moldy Crow (3)
Garven Dreis (26)
R2-F2 (3)
Wedge Antilles (29)
Swarm Tactics (2)
Proton Torpedoes (4)
R2-D2 (4)
Total: 100

That's definitely what id go for but to get it i'd have to drop Moldy Crow. Which do you think is more valuable Crow or Recon?

Also interesting. If you can get Garven to shoot first with Swarm Tactics, that focus can be passed along to the others.

Heh, and if the focus Garven passes on was given to him by Kyle, it could make it all the way around the team.

Turrets: I recommend the Ion Cannon Turret over Blaster Turret. A little control goes a long way when your ships don't maneuver well. Also does not cost a Focus to fire, which is worth the extra point any day of the week. If you're playing casually, then proxy a Twin Laser Turret, or a Dorsal Turret if you need to save points.

Pilots: Jan Ors pairs great with Wedge. Her extra attack die goes a long way when Wedge is already taking an evade die out of the equation. Use your A-wing for a third ship. A Green Squadron pilot can block for Wedge, or use Tycho with Push the Limit to flank.
