So in the last episode of Rebels we saw B1 Battle Droids, so I guess that means that they might be showing up in this game sooner or later, guessing sometime when they are releasing Rebels Imperial Assault content. The question is which faction they will fall under? My guess is Scum, and I'm not just saying that so that IG-88 can further build up his Droid army, which at the moment only consists of himself, HK assassin droids, and the odd Imperial Probe Droid.
Rebels and Battle Droids
Meh-
I'm not gonna complain about any new content, but ff we're getting droids, I'd rather see stuff like interrogation droids, EV droids, medical droids, and such.
SPOILERS
The episode was good, but I don't think we'll be seeing those guys show up.
They were a very rare thing; some droids that didn't get shut down because their leader thought the shut down order was a trick.
Kalani the super tactical droid was really cool, but I don't see these guys coming to IA.
First off most of them were destroyed either by the Rebels or the Empire. So really all that's left at the end of the episode is Kalani and a handful of B1s.
In Legends stuff (notably Empire at War) scum people reactivated old droids for their own use, so they'd for sure fit into scum, but seeing them in this game would be a long shot at best.
I haven't seen the episode, but I'd think there would be more call for the Rogue One droid before this. I could be wrong though

I think it depends on whether they decide to do the next expansion cycle, big box and small box, on Rebels or Rogue One. I would think Rebels would be next though FFG might try to go ahead and do Rogue One first since it is more a flash in the pan where as Rebels is growing more and more of a following. But I figured once we do get to the Rebels content we could see these droids at some point.

They might be uncommon, but the storm troopers did have a protocol for dealing with reactivated battle droids so I could see them still being used by pirates, or like we saw here as small pocket remainders of droids who refused the shut down order or didn't get it due to one reason or another.
The Vader comic series also has him running around with his own squad of reprogrammed battle droids.
But really, they've put HK's in the game - a model that is both from a non canon source, and thousands of years old. If they want to include battle droids, they'll simply include battle droids.
Spoiler:
But now we can expect a new ghost model with the new phantom! After it gets a new paint job of course... But that's for X-Wing, not IA.
Edited by GadgetronHonestly, I think IA is the only FFG game that tries to obey canon where prequel factions would make sense, but maybe I just really want to see a Grievous mini

To be fair I wouldn't be upset if they decided to come out with a prequel version/expansion for the game. And since the game seems to be getting rid of the Time Period restriction, based off the last few expansions, it would make it possible to include them thought I'm sure it will upset purists who wouldn't want prequel characters who should be dead showing up during the Galactic Civil War.
Besides if they ended up releasing the Clone Troopers as an expansion I'd probably end up buying way more than I'd need of them so that I could paint squads in some of the different battalion colors, 501st amongst others.

I don't consider myself a purist (I was really excited to see Obi-Wan, Greedo, and the GI this summer, despite their weird canon issues) but I don't know about this. I mean, I'll always be of the position of "the more the merrier", and I'd be excited for people who actually cared about these releases, but I don't know if I'd personally buy them.
Edited by subtrendyIf we got straight up Clone Wars era factions, I'd like to see it as a standalone game. Like Republic Assault or whatever.
I would love to play with Clone Wars era stuff. But I also think the three factions and the time period are enough for IA.

I agree with this. I worry about the days when they start trying to find stuff to add and we get the IA equivalent of "Sabine's TIE-Fighter".

I'd be perfectly fine with that, though part of me thinks that we will see a Sequel trilogy spin off/expansion before we get to the prequel content considering that it is probably more relevant at the moment to most people. And from my guessing based of previous releases we will have finished the OT, Rogue One, and most of Rebels done in time for the sequel trilogy to finish up.
I don't see any longstanding point. IA has caught my interest because of variety and obscure (uncommon/unknown) figures and excellent gameplay. The most boring thing about the Clone Wars is that everything was the same. All the Clones were identical for the most part and so were the Jedi. They all performed the same role, there were just a lot of them with different colors. The Droids were all the same as well (I know they had 3 different types, but they basically all shot lasers and died no matter what they were equipped with) I don't see it as a good long term strategy to sell lots of the same stuff.
IA has several different types of figures and 3 different factions, whereas in Clone Wars you get 2 fairly boring or similar factions.

Even though I'm not a Clone Wars fan, I have to disagree. Clone troopers and droids feature far more varied roles in their respective films than the the Empire or Rebels ever showed. Now, we know that expanded universe stormeis have a ton of variants, it's true- but I'd imagine expanded universe clone variants are just as numerous, if not more.

Yup, just look at the original Star Wars Battlefront games. Add in the Clone Wars, The Clone Wars, various game variants, and the rest of the EU there are a whole bunch of droids and clones for FFG to pick from. As for the Jedi they could just create the character around some central point or play style.

Exactly. Regarding Jedi, there are a ton of named jedi in the Clone Wars era, far more than we're ever going to see plastic for even if IA even ever does expand into the Clone Wars. I guess we could have generic jedi to bolster the ranks, and they could be divided by rank or focus- for instance, we could see Padawans, Knights, Masters, etc... or we could see Guardians, Sentinels, Consulars, etc. Not really sure generic Jedi would even be needed (or wanted) though when it might be better just to have scores of clone trooper variants with named Jedi.
Generic unnamed Jedi would be suitable as heroes, but we already have two force-sensitive jedi-to-be heroes.
We have already seen that existing named / unique characters are fine as allies/villains, but we already have Obi-Wan and Luke Jedi Knights.
I think it would also do disservice to the game to add similar figures instead of variety.

At this point, I'd rather play a version of IA with G.I.Joe and Cobra figures then. They had more variety and you could have a 3rd faction of Buffoons from the swamp or Ninjas. Larry Hama/GiJoe loved the Ninjas.

Feel free to design one, though I'm sure part of the appeal of this game is the "Star Wars" of it all.

The appeal to me was the legacy Star Wars of it all, which to me meant more tactical warfare and less glowbat wielders, but I'm sure I'm in the minority and most players would rather their "star wars" be nothing but Jedi Wars.

Trust me, I'm with ya there. Again, I personally wouldn't want a Clone Wars era game or even a ton more jedi- but I think we have a pretty solid game so far. I won't complain if they bring in Clone Wars stuff, I just probably won't add them to my personal collection.

i agree with have a solid game, but I'm fearful when I see the idea vacuum for X-Wing, but it doesn't stop them putting out more ships. I would like to see them tweak some of the older characters to make them more viable. I know we are going to see at least another small box, probably Endor. After that I'd honestly like to see a slow down. Tweak the game. Tournaments don't have to stop just because there isn't a constant influx of new plastic semi-annually.

I guess I just a live and let live attitude when it comes to this thing. You have no obligation to buy packs or expansions if you don't like them. Even if you want to remain competitive in Skirmish- well, look at how so many units from the Core game are still frequently used!
Trust me, I understand product fatigue. But it's a bit silly to expect FFG to pack up shop just because you personally don't want more.
The only jedi hero I would want to see at this point is one who is struggling with the dark side. Empire could use another, though.
