Epic - Raider & Newbacca

By Kalandros, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So I placed an A-Wing who was doomed anyway, in the path of the Raider - to trigger Newbacca's ability to get an attack in when another friendly ship is destroyed at range 1-3 of him.

Do you complete all of the Raiders post-maneuver stuff - Energy and Actions - before Newbacca's ability triggers or does it trigger as soon as the ship is crushed, killed and destroyed by the raider?

Would it not depend on pilot skill /initiative?

Would it not depend on pilot skill /initiative?

How would it? I'm not sure you're following how this works, in Epic, when a Huge ship overlaps a small or large ship, this small or large is removed from play - destroyed immediately, no rolling dice.

The raider moves, crushes the ship, ship is destroyed > trigger chewbacca's attack > raider goes back to its energy and actions

The raider moves, crushes the ship, deals with its energy stuff, takes Actions > then chewbacca attacks

How would it?

Because:

If both players have effects that resolve at the same time (or from the same trigger), which player resolves their abilities first?

A: The player with initiative resolves all abilities he would like to resolve, then the other player resolves all abilities he would like to resolve.

Always Initiative. Never Pilot Skill.

Pilot Skill is only used when setting up, moving ships and making attacks. When two players share the same timing window, it's always initiative that decides which player goes first.

And "I have an ability that triggers now" is not the same timing window as "this is the next thing I'm supposed to do". There is no conflict. The Chewbacca vengeance attack comes before the Energy phase.

And decloaking. It's used when multiple things are decloaking.

I thought there was one more but couldn't remember it. Thanks. :)

Okay, we can go by initiative I guess, but its an interruption of the sequence much like Quickdraw interrupts things but its not happening in the combat phase so there's no "step 9" or whatever exactly~

So nothing official other than "initiative decides who gets to interrupt/continue"?

This is the way I would resolve it. Quickdraw would normally lose a shield during the Combat phase, but that doesn't mean it's the only time an ability could trigger. She could move over a debris cloud, take damage, lose a shield, triggering her attack ability, and all during the Activation phase.

And in this case, I don't think initiative is even required as Chewie interrupts the process during the execution of the manoeuvre (immediately after the small ship is destroyed) and before the Gain Energy sub-step.

It's not, because there is only one trigger here, and only one ability that requires a trigger.

The A-Wing being destroyed is the trigger, and Chewies ability is triggered from that. Nothing the Raider is going to do is triggered by a ship being destroyed so it has to wait for all effects triggered by the destruction of a ship to resolve.
