Let's create droids

By kelpie, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all

after buying SM, a new player (ie old player with new char) start thinking about droid creation.

Rules are fairly easy: select template, acquire materials, do the rolls, spend advantage/threat.

Now, he posed me some question

a) advantage/threats are treated like normal rules, or are not canceling? ie if he roll 3x advantage and 2x threat, he got only one advantage to spend on table 3-8 (so, for instance, he can buy a +1 health) or he has 3 advantage to spend and then me (the GM) got 2 threath to spend (so for instance he can have an armor plated droid difficult to customise)?

b) he whant a combat droid; template are only for minions or nemesis. He does'nt whant to go with an army of droids (minions) but nemesis are too powerful (and also expensive and difficult ;) ) so he would whant a rival one, but only rival is specialist template who got 1x agility. So it make sense to let him found (maybe during an adventure so not really easy) a rival template with stats more suitable for combat?

c) can he create a droid, then in a second time (while acquired enough resources, and/or found a more useful template) create the new template and upload/transfer droid "brain matrix" inside the new body? rule-wise could be the same than creating a new droid BUT he would like to create a droid more powerful who, roleplaying-wise, is the same he already has

thank you for answers :)

Gonna answer a) and b)

a) yes Adv/Thr cancel normally. If the GM wants AND the player agrees I see no problem changing this. However a clever player can get several blue dice and or spend time lowering the difficulty. First few droids may be crap but with Time and Effort you can put together something reasonable.

b) You have 2 options here 1) take the specialist droid and then use the 25pt talent that lets you move characteristics around or 2) GM can create a new template.
