Scum & Villainy Epic Ships...Doomed to Die?

By SlaveofChrist, in X-Wing

I had to wait two years for them to update Tau Codex, and let me tell you those rules didn't come free in the core set.

Also remember that FFG isn't just the company that makes X-Wing the way GW is just the company that makes Warhammer; they have entire games that they're churning out rules, fixes, miniatures for.

Once I've waited for FFG to update the rules for two years and the updated rules are worse: then, I'll worry: about the same amount I worry about 40K Apocalypse stuff dying off. That is to say, not very much at all.

Skyhook. Hashtag YOLO swag! Might actually play again if that happened. They somewhat earned my faith back with this latest errata block, so maybe. Also Armada doesn't get all that much action and I'm chomping at the bit.

Just be patient. It will be here.

But, but...it's been almost a year and a half since the last Epic ship was announced, and I'm getting anxious ...

How long did we wait for the Raider after the Tantive and Transport?

All I would ask is that if FFG have decided not to produce any more Epic ships (for whatever faction) for the foreseeable future (or ever again  ), that they at least tell us so...

...that way, those of us who are happy enough playing casually and perhaps with ships/upgrades of our own choice/design (like Marinealver's), can choose to obtain them elsewhere in the knowledge that our expenditure isn't possibly going to be wasted when an 'official' expansion appears.

I, for one, am considering an Action IV and/or DP20 3d-printed, to use for Scum.

Come on, FFG, spill the beans!

I consider painting up a transport for Scum or to convert a Gozanti.

A good question, lets see...

Ok, so the original announcement for the Tantive IV & the Rebel Transport was made on August 20, 2013.

Then the Imperial Raider was announced on December 19, 2014 - which would make it 14 months later.

However, as of today, that would make it 22 months - 8 months later then the last announcement would have been placed, and we still haven't heard anything from FFG.

This is why I'm concerned...

They're trying to release Delve, Hand of the King, and New Angeles right now too, and they just got a wave out. Remember, Netrunner is their baby, not Star Wars.

Be calm. Scum will happen. When there is time for it.

Yeah but those are all different divisions. Activision doesn't halt all games just to release Destiney or Call of Duty. Those games have really no impact on X-wing.

However I think you are right about one thing and that is FFG's focus more on inhouse IP, especially with the split with GW I also believe they are rethinking their liscense strategy just a little. however I don't think they are backing off from $tar war$ any time soon. It is just making them so much money right now and disney is pleased with their product marketing coinciding with the new movies.

However! I'm seeing that the Gozanti was announced in July of 2015, and it was released in the last week of December of 2015. So fear not!

I'm not saying we're NEVER getting a Scum epic, but the variety of large base ships the faction has seems to make it not so much of a priority. The Empire HAD to get the Gozanti to give that side an option besides the Raider. There's no such urgency with Scum.

Large bases have nothing to do with huge ships. They work nothing alike, and some if the large base ships arent great in epic anyway. And imperials were still better off with just the raider than scum are with no epic ships...

I'm afraid that I have to agree with VanderLegion. Epic ships are all about Capital ships and the thrill and excitement of controlling one, and just like fighters and torpedo bombers, small/large ships are nothing like carriers and battleships.

It would be a real shame if FFG is in line with your thinking and therefore I do believe that there is a sense of urgency to complete the experience with Scum & Villainy to being able to command Capital ships in Epic Battles & conflict as the Rebels and Imperials are already enjoying.

If you ask me, what Id be more annoyed by is if you want to be a scum faction exclusive person, you need to still buy the "Rebel VS Imperial Faction starter sets, and you wont get a single item outside of a damage deck, and movement stuff for your faction.

All the ships, pilot cards, etc are basically useless to you until you buy your faction ships. Scum is the most expensive faction to get into if you dont want imperial or rebel craft, with holding of course the duel class ships, z-95, Y-wing, etc...
