New FAQ updates Kyle Katarn 10/21
Wingman
The ship with Wingman equipped is the ship that is
removing the stress token. Therefore, if a ship with
Wingman removes a stress token from another friendly
ship that is equipped with Kyle Katarn (crew), that ship
is not assigned a focus token from Kyle's ability.
That ship is NOT assigned a focus token. That's the change.
Edited by Ken at SunriseOh darn.
I thought they were going to errata him just so he synergized with Cassian Andor pilot.
Because Jan/Jyn wasn't already hilarious enough.
Good that makes more sense.
'Revealing Red Maneuvers When a player reveals a red maneuver for a stressed ship, he has an opportunity to resolve card effects that change the maneuver’s difficulty or change the maneuver to a different one (Adrenaline Rush, Navigator, etc.). After resolving these effects, if the ship would still be executing a red maneuver, the owner moves the ship as if it were assigned a white [2 straight] maneuver instead. The speed, bearing, and difficulty of this maneuver cannot be changed.'
Looks like they also added a bit that keeps Nien Nunb crew or R2 from making the 2 white straight green.
Wait, wait, wait.... so if my stressed ARC with Kyle on board does a white maneuver and clears stress from Kanan who is on a separate ship.... my ARC does NOT get a free focus?

Karan removed the token not Kyle. Looks like that would be so.

Well that sucks like nobody's business. I mean, Kyle Katarn was so OP and needed a nerf....

My Dash/Jan list, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
On the other hand, if a ship with Wingman or Kanan also has Kyle, you'll get a focus token every time you use Wingman/Kanan, which is... niche, but the sort of janky synergy FFG feels is the core part of the Rebel's faction identity.
Wait, they got rid of that ruling. So, I guess this doesn't work

No you wouldn't. That's what the typo in the FAQ had originally said. Kyle only triggers when stress is removed from "your ship" by "you".
If there is another effect that triggers when removing stress without the additional condition then Kanan, Wingman, BMST, Latts Razi, and Epsilon Leader would all trigger that. It looks like there is an unspoiled card that says something like "When you remove a stress token, remove a second stress token").

After you remove a stress token from your ship, you may assign a focus token to your ship.So the "you" is a reference to the ship that Kyle is on, not the actual player?
"You" on a card always refers to the pilot, yes.
Edited by SquarkWhy don't they just add Kyle to the FAQ and spell out how his ability works? They might as well change it to "after you perform a green maneuver and remove one stress from this ship, you may assign one focus token to this ship." It is stupid that wingman does not trigger Kyle on the other ship because he does not say how the stress needs to be removed.
Kyle Katarn
Rebel Aces Expansion Pack
Rebel only.
After you remove a stress token from your ship, you may assign a focus token to your ship.
Wingman
Z-95 Headhunter Expansion Pack
At the start of the Combat phase, remove 1 stress token from another friendly ship at Range 1.

I had hoped to find a really sneaky way to combine Wingman and Kyle to let me pull stress from (say) Tycho and let (say) Han Solo have a Focus token. Oh well.
And, actually, unless the FAQ changed the card text (which I don't think they did), the logic of their ruling makes a great deal of sense.
Why don't they just add Kyle to the FAQ and spell out how his ability works? Your wording would remove the awesome Kyle/Kanan synergy, though.

Because that FAQ entry would be inaccurate. The Kyle Katarn crew card is very clear. It specifies that when "you" remove a stress token from "your ship" you may assign a focus token to "your ship".
The Wingman FAQ clarified that it was the ship that has Wingman equipped that is removing the stress token. As to why they chose Wingman and not any of the other abilities that remove stress from another ship, I don't know. It may be because Wingman is not an optional effect. If there is only a single friendly ship at range one when Wingman triggers, it loses a stress token whether you want it to or not.

I am just a little annoyed they took a borderline useful crew and made him almost useless. With this ruling BMST completely takes a 3 point crew out of the game if it hits. You get damage and no focus!
Kyle Katarn is a good crew card in conjunction with PtL and gives action equivalence even if you get super-stressed. He's not really out of the game aside from some jank.

But they didn't change him. This is how he always worked.
And ever hear of Super Dash? Kyle is far from worthless.

He's likely got a seat reserved for him next to Kanan on many a HoTR Falcon as well.
Who still runs kyle on super dash? They really shouldn't.

Not when Kannan gives you the whole dial. The greens make you so predictable, and not being able to hard turn gives you so much less space toward the edge of the board... It's a good bit worse in most situations, and slightly better in one. That's not better.
