Jedi Luke Preview
Yeah, he's all sort of good. Price point cheap for all those abilities.
I don't play much skirmish, so I'm not sure how much this sways the activations > high cost units argument, but I don't think I'd appreciate seeing this guy running full speed across the battlefield at me.
Luke, in the middle of a horde of Stormtroopers, is going to have a lot of deflections to hand out...
I feel like this is the hero the Rebels have needed for a while. Leia is great for her price, and I assume Lando is too (haven't used him yet) but Luke is just great in general- and still, at a pretty reasonable price.
All that health+deflections+actions. Oh yeah, he'll easily be worth the 12 pts.
Im glad they made this Luke, but to be honest I was hoping we got like a Hoth Luke or Bespin Luke first.
I'm really lookforward to putting this Luke into the force users list I've been playing. He looks really fun.
I like naïve Luke and Jedi Luke. I can do with out petulant, moody. cry baby Luke. Empire Luke bites the big one.

59% chance to kill an elite stormy with one chop!
The only sad thing about this Luke is you look at Han's 12 point card and you shake your head in disappointment
Really hoping they sort out the unique's in the core soon.
New tile looks awesome, as expected!

Yeah, I'm actually pretty glad FFG isn't giving us a ton of different versions of each character- there's plenty to cover in Star Wars before we have to start scraping the bottom of the barrel to get Imperial Guard Luke (my first Star Wars action figure as a kid, coincidentally).
We have pre-jedi Luke, now Jedi Luke. I think those two versions are different enough to warrant two separate figures and cards.
Here's all the images from the article.
I think a new list I might try will be:
Luke Jedi Knight
Motivation
Leia
Obi Wan
Davith
Gideon
C3PO
Channel The Force
My current list is just has Regular Luke and R2.
Has positioning advantage become a new auto-include? Or close to?
Btw, are we happy or sad that Luke doesn't get a new unique command card?
Happy. I think his command card is REALLY powerful and can be used successfully with both characters probably EVEN more so in a Twins List with Jedi Luke
Motivation kinda seems super good. What would be a reason that you wouldn't include that in an army?

If you don't have a unique figure to put it on.

So thinking about the +block vs +evade, at first I think the block is better, but then I remember that stormies rely on that surge (and the reroll) for consistent damage. More important is that the auto evade allows you to cancel a surge that could be used for deadly allowing a dodge to remain a dodge

Maybe it's just me but I think core Luke has more synergy in a Twins list. While Leia can recycle SoS for either, I think her Battlefield Leadership has more value with core Luke than Jedi Luke. YMMV.
Deflect almost seems too good to me. If a regular group of stormies attacks Luke, regardless of how much damage they do to him, he can take one of them completely out without attacking a single time.

Agreed. I fought Leia (who has a free evade) the other day with some Elite ISBs. I had to score at least two surges to trigger deadly (and 3 a couple times when she rolled a block-evade), which is (a) a tall order, even when focused, and (b) meant in the rare cases I landed enough surges, the damage was terrible. :-P

In skirmish given the gold standard for units is pretty much "has a surge for +2 damage", isn't a bonus evade almost always blocking more damage than an equivalent block would. Thus a bonus evade is pretty much always better?

Not always. I'd argue that for white die heroes, a block is over all better, while fir black die figures a plus evade works better. It balances out weakness that way

That's kind of what I was thinking. Though ID X T makes a good point- if a single evade would be more likely to block 2 damage rather than a block preventing only one, then obviously it's better in that particular case.

Yeah but it's diminishing returns. That's especially true with evades as most of the time you won't getting more than one surge at a time, and even if you do, that +2 only works once.
With heroic here, we need more force user cards that give special actions.
