For a ship "fixed" through an FAQ, it doesn't need to change the meta over-night or be at the top of the meta, but just be "on par". I understand and would expect x7 defenders to be found in the top meta - we payed for the x7 title.
M3-A “Sux” Interceptor
mango juice:
4x TPV with mangler and juke. Even with 4 hp they're still fragile
You're taking nothing but unmodified shots with that squad though. It seems like getting more arcs on a target than they've got focus tokens from Scyks that didn't need to spend their evade token before they shot would be a challenge. Mindlink or Crackshot seems like it would be a better choice.
I think I kind of like having 2 HLC and 2 Ion mind linked TPVs.
Edited by quasistellarWhat about some crackTPV?
Er, juke doesn't remove focus from your action bar. That said, I think mind link has more upside (and it's cheaper).

Juke doesn't remove focus from your action bar but if you want to use Juke you are taking the evade action instead of the focus action. I'm sure that someone has done the math on it but Juke on an unmodified shot isn't any better than just spending a focus token to modify the attack instead. Juke instead of being able to modify the attack may come out ahead when facing a lower PS squad because you can essentially use the same token for both offense and defense.
This is exactly it, spamming 4 Scyks is not the way to go.. But 1 or 2 backing up other ships works great. Last night I ran 2 Ion Scyks in a 200pt doubles. They definitely pulled their weight. Ionized, Blue Leader, who then got blown out of the sky. finished off a B-Wing, Ionized Dutch Vander and then dived into Range 1 and finished him off. Ionized Han so he landed on an asteroid and then proceeded to do 5+ (can't remember how much) damage on him at close range (OK the tractor beam token helped).. They are nippy, they are effective at range or close up, they are fairly survivable for the points, and you get a lot of utility out of them.
The 19 point Cartel Spacer with Ion canon will definitely be the Scyk I use the most. I'm glad to hear of your success running them.
An Ion canon Scyk is definitely an improvement over an Ion canon turret Y-wing with BTL-A4. The Ion canon can setup huge damage from your other ships the round after something is tagged.
Edited by Dengar5Well I played the new Scyk-ness and I blew up ships and it was brutal. So it's all anecdotal and based on rolling lucky dice... but I say the M3-A is gonna pull through and prove itself as a real option when building Scum lists.
I like this list:
Cartel Spacer Title, Hull Upgrade, Heavy Laser Cannon x2
Fenn Rau Title, Auto Thrusters, Push The Limit
Binayre Pirate Black Market Slicer Tools

I have done the math on it, and assuming the opponent doesn't have a focus token, Juke is better. Granted, on that first shot, the opponent will almost certainly have a focus. But if you've got two or three, or even four Juke ships all firing at the same ship, it's pretty brutal. I've seen quite a bit of success among my local players with a 4 Juke/Comm Relay TIE/fo miniswarm. Granted, with Comm Relay, you can get focus and evade, but the fact still stands that Juke is better than a focus on unmodified dice. There's a bit more swing to it, and if you only have one Juke carrier, you'd better have some other way of making sure they don't have a focus if you want to get damage through, but it's still pretty powerful.
Xwing players today: "it's not broken, that means it's unplayable"
There is no way for every ship in this game to be tier 1. It just can't happen. Doesn't mean everything else is unplayable.
Actually what i said was the fix was a steep in the right direction .... but they are still lacking decent aces like other ships. They are playable but i was hoping for a bit more from the fix . At least they don't get one shotted all the time now.
Is this a troll thread?
I wouldn't go that far, but it's definitely more of a problem with the player than it is a problem with the ship.

He just means that seems this guy cannnot fly scyks very well...it's fine, it happens.
Have you tried 5 Manglers?
I think a good way to use the Scyks is with numbers, not quality (don't put too many points on each ship).

This. Some people were having success with Scyks at a competitive level BWFORE the buff to the Heavy Scyk title; now what we're seeing is more people taking them, but expecting immediate results.
It doesn't work like that. (and it shouldn't work like that, either). The Scyj has a ton of potential as a cheap, agile cannon carrier. It'll take time for people to realise and unlock that potential.
Played two games with the Syck's last night.
Tried two lists
My findings with the first game. Don't run into 2 large ships with Tactician and Slicers.
2nd Game, not so bad. I ended up winning. Mindlink works better with the new 2 straight dial when you commit a red manuever when out of turn. I actually used and commited a red K turn knowing I would get 2 stress, but go 2 white forward. Instead of had my dial changed.
Basically the extra Hull makes the ship viable. It's not really a swarm ship, but is now a good filler ship with something else. I will use them for that.

But... the Scyk has a 2 green forward..?

True. But I made a mistake and made a K turn with the wrong ship first. Usually I dial in a green for everyone else, when I know I'm K'ing, but this time I did two of them and luckily I suffered on a 2 forward white for my mistake.

I think you'd get similar results switching out PTL for Mindlink on Serissu. It saves you a couple of points and the end result is going to be the same much of the time. with those freed up points I would look at doing a couple of things:
1. Drop Serissu down to a Tractor Beam and give her either a hull upgrade or stealth device. She's a little more durable and will have a focus+evade while flying next to at least one Scyk that has a focus and her reroll but no evade token.
2. Drop Serissu down to a Tractor Beam and upgrade one of the Vets to an HLC. With a bigger threat on the board, your opponent is going to have to decide between getting rid of Serissu or taking an HLC (with focus, evade, and reroll) off the table.
3. Upgrade Serrisu to a Mangler. She's still the biggest threat and most expensive ship you have but now she's capable of dealing some damage at PS8.

In Yo Face Aces:
Fenn Rau (Fearlessness, Autothrusters, Concord Dawn, Seismic Torp)
Talonbane Cobra (Fearlessness, Vectored Thrusters, Glitterstim, Homing Missiles)
Serrisu (VI, Heavy Scyk, Vectored Thrusters, Ion Cannon)
OK, if you don't want Seri as the number one target (I'm doing an aces theme, so that's why VI) there are other 1 pt EPTs that will do.
Hit hard, die young. Have fun.

Vectored Thrusters are a waste of points on a Scyk. They've got the barrel-roll action even without it. I'd probably take those two points and swap Fearlessness out for PTL on Fenn Rau.

We were discussing how Serissu in this kind of list is pointless. There is really no down side to dealing with Serissu first as she is the same points as the rest of the squad and equally dangerous. Also what matters is shots coming in not models in your squad.. For example the enemy has 2 Jumpmasters that is a maximum of 2 modifications no matter how many ships in your list. So she is better being put with a heavy hitter that the opponent would prefer to shoot over her. Then they have to make the hard choice of dealing with her first, or dealing with the target they want to get rid of with a modifier from her.

I like the look of Serissu + priority targets, although I find it difficult to find another high 30 point option next to Guri. This Zuckuss is fun, but certainly overequipped.
The new and improved Scyks make great control fillers.

I wish I could like this more than once. None of the ships are "unplayable". Some are stronger point for point but all of them are usable.
