Rule question - Advantages in space combat

By Rosco74, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello, just a question about spending advantages in space combat. I use the table the core rule book, from Force and Destiny but the others are the same I guess.

For 2 advantages : Perform an immediate free maneuver, provided the active character has not already performed 2 maneuvers in that turn.

For 3 advantages: Perform one free pilot only maneuver provided it does not exceed the maximum number of pilot only maneuvers in a turn.

For me it is the same... what is the difference please??

maneuvers: move range bands within the ship, access an item or ready a weapon on your person, aim, assist, mount/dismount appropriate vehicle station...

pilot only maneuvers: accelerate/decelerate, fly/drive, evasive maneuvers, stay on target...

Aim is for example not a pilot only maneuver. Evasive Maneuvers for example is pilot only.

Now why the more restricted option is more expensive … I guess they mean that you can not access pilot only maneuvers for just 2 advantages.

Ok I see the point thanks :)

Would the ship suffer strain in the case you activate the pilot only maneuver?

Two pilot-only manoeuvres in one turn would indeed inflict 2 system strain on the ship, yes. And also two strain for the pilot for taking two manoeuvres.

Free maneuvers don't cost strain … which now would explain why the pilot-only ones are more expensive if they get around the 2 system strain. Interesting that I don't remember if you get around the system strain this way. Not that it would matter for my character, I take system strain always as strain anyway and would use normally advantages to recover strain in case my ace starts to feeling the g.

Don't forget, taking cover is a maneuver you can also do in space!

Fly into a debris field to give your enemies a more difficult time hitting you.
