Help With Firespray List

By brettdavis1991, in X-Wing

Hey there i'm fairly new to x-wing and need help making a build with my firespray arriving soon. Most of the time I play with my buddy (me Imperials, him rebels) and most of the time he beats me in 50 point games. When the Firespray shows up we are gonna do a 100 point game and i'm looking for advice on how to make a firespray list.

Here are the expansions I have

(Imperial) Tie Expansion

(Imperial) Tie Interceptor

(Imperial) Tie Advanced Expansion

(Rebel) X-Wing Expansion

(Rebel) HWK-290 Expansion

(Rebel) A-Wing Expansion

+core set
He has a variety of Rebel expansions including, a-wings, x-wing, b-wings, e-wing, y-wing, and falcon.+2 core sets
I'm 99% sure he will take the falcon and i wouldn't be surprised to see a b-wing since he just got them and wants to field them.
So what do you guys think, any advice?

Could do a lot worse than this. As a new player, it's nice if your pilot skills line up so you can move in any order. Don't get too focused on the Firesprays rear arc. Flying a large base is tricky and the engine upgrade can help IF you plan well and have some space in front of your ship.

Your Tie Advanced is way too expensive for what it does without the title that comes with the Raider and your Interceptor is going to be very very green dice dependent without autothrusters which come with the Starviper.

You will need to borrow an engine upgrade from your buddies Falcon expansion but you could do worse than something like this:

Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Bounty Hunter (33)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Avenger Squadron Pilot (20)
Stealth Device (3)
Total: 99

Do you guys proxy? I say this as the Tie Advanced came out in Wave 1, but needed a fix for a long time. The fix in the Imperial Raider is very important to make that ship viable. I would check with him to see if he would let you print out a copy of the title and the new System that makes it much more viable. It really does a lot to make the X1 better.

If you are able to proxy, I think the new Tail Gunner that came out in the ARC-170 does wonders for the Firespray. Giving a target -1 Agility behind you is great.

If you can't go with proxy cards...then I think the cards you want to use are basically Engine Upgrade and Recon Specialist. Engine Upgrade allows you to adjust your facing to ensure you get a ship in firing arc. That Falcon can be really slippery and you need to be able to have a shot each turn. The Recon Specialist allows you to have a Focus for Offense and for Defense. With the 2 Agility, it can be useful and will keep the ship alive longer.

Also, I think cheap Tie Fighters are a great way to block the Falcon. You want to stick them where you think the Falcon will go. If he bumps, you will know where he is and he gets no action.

I also found Backstabber to be a great Tie Fighter to face off with against the Falcon. Yes, he fires 360, but it usually means you get an extra attack die!

So, with all that, I think I'd do this list:

Bounty Hunter (33)
Rebel Captive (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Academy Pilot (12)
"Backstabber" (16)
Darth Vader (29)
Determination (1)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
TIE/x1 (0)
Total: 99
If you are able to print out ("proxy") cards then I would suggest this.
Krassis Trelix (36)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Ysanne Isard (4) - VT-49 Decimator Expansion Pack
Engine Upgrade (4) - Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack
Soontir Fel (27)
Opportunist (4) - Imperial Aces Expansion Pack
Autothrusters (2) - StarViper Expansion Pack
Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Wingman (2) - Z-95 Headhunter Expansion Pack
Total: 100
If you have to stick with your own then here are a couple of others you might find fun.
Soontir Fel (27)
Determination (1)
Bounty Hunter (33)
Seismic Charges (2)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Academy Pilot (12)
Academy Pilot (12)
Academy Pilot (12)
Total: 100

Saber Squadron Pilot (21)
Push the Limit (3)
Bounty Hunter (33)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Total: 100

I like this one. All PS3. This helps a lot for your planning. Replace EU by Recon Spec if you have no access to EU.

Keep it simple, this will get you a bit of everything. Also will help you understand interceptors and their arc dodging. Keep howler behind and close to the academies. Use the Firespray to area deny and go after his falcon.

Bounty Hunter (33)

"Howlrunner" (18)

Academy Pilot (12)

Academy Pilot (12)

Saber Squadron Pilot (21)

Push the Limit (3)

Total: 99

Best of all, you won't have to proxy or borrow anything.

I like this list but if you were to stick to cards you have try swapping the engine upgrade out for a Recon Specialist which you have from the Hawk, gives you more options for offence and defence with two focus tokens.

Gives you a 2 point bid (not that useful at PS3 against rebels) or you could add seismic charges which come with the Firespray for some laughs (and surprises given what your friend has, it doesn't look like either of you have used bombs yet)

Edit: ninja'd about the Rec Spec

I can't believe no one else is throwing in Backstabber! He's a natural Falcon killer...and cheap. I've killed many YT-1300's with him on the table.

My initial thoughts were to recommend Backstabber and Dark Curse...both of whom are independent monsters in Waves 1-3; I was just building on others recommendations

Howlrunner
3 x Academy TIE Fighters

Krassis with Heavy Laser Cannon and Rebel Captive.

100 pts

TIES are good blockers to stop the Falcon from moving/taking actions and with Howlrunner they are also super accurate, expect 7 - 8 hits from that little unit alone when focussed.

Krassis brings the pain with the Heavy Laser Cannon (works well with his ability to re-roll a dice) and Rebel Captive punishes anyone that wants to declare him a target.

I hate the Howlrunner crutch and flying Tie Fighters in formation. I prefer to see them actually swarming all over a ship like the Falcon. I know I'm in the minority. :)

He would definitely let me use one of his tie fighters if i asked. Would probably let me use some of his upgrades but I wouldn't rely on that because he might want to use them as well. I was Thinking something like this what do you guys think?

Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)

Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
"Howlrunner" (18)
Swarm Tactics (2)
Bounty Hunter (33)
Seismic Charges (2)
Recon Specialist (3)
"Backstabber" (16)
Total: 100
was thinking I could use swarm to give the bounty hunter better PS.

I'm not sure about the points cost, but Imperial Kath Scarlett with Tactician and Mangler Cannon is a stress dealing machine.

I think this will be a good list - good luck! :)

How is Howlrunner a crutch? A crutch is a tool used to prop up weakness but is ultimately an impediment if one grows too reliant on it and cannot discard it. Were Howlrunner a crutch she'd disappear at the top levels of play rather than be a TIE swarm staple no matter how it's flown.
