I figured with all the great modding talent someone here would know. Perhaps we can use this as a nice start to create a assembly and disassembly guide for all the vessels to allow more people to customize there ships without this fear.

Yes, for the Bomber at least.

The wings pop off. Then the fronts of the two pods pop off in a single piece about 2 to 3mm back, which goes right back to form the front half of the peg hole underneath. There's not a proper socket for this front piece, just a little bar that fits into a horizontal slot. You can get it off in one piece with patience and a fine-bladed modelling tool or spudger. I also cut the two bodies apart so that my shuttle and passenger pod would be the same length.

You might also try dunking it in 91% alcohol for a while. It's what I use for stripping and breakdown as it reliably dissolves FFG glue and paint. Doesn't really help if you don't want to repaint the whole thing though. Good luck!
