Epic beginnings. Rebels vs Empire.

By Kalandros, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Played my second Epic game ever, though I'm quite used to standard play, against an opponent also on his second Epic game ever but with only 2 standard games on his belt.

Neither knew what the other was bringing, we're in a 20 player Epic League, playing 1 game per 2 week (as schedules allow) and we were a bit late on our game since we're already into the 3rd bi-week of the league but it finally coincided with both our schedules.

House Rules: General and Lieutenant

Deployment turned out like this:

14707920_1145009232245088_12047065041533

Turn 1 ended as such:

14708015_1145009475578397_78111937081931

Gozanti had deployed 2 of his four (kind of lack of space to get some good arcs I guess?) and shot 2 protorps + Gozanti turret on Dash, leaving him with 2 hulls. I had done a boost + barrel roll for placement, didn't expect him to get 2 bombers out right there in front of the rock (the bumped one was given an action by the Gozanti's Coordinate action I think its called?) to get the target lock. Dash had 3 dice for defense thanks to the rock but it still hurt pretty bad.

Turn 2 ended this way:
14691276_1145009595578385_26469155412908

I had done a 4 Forward on my fully energized GR-75 to get as many ships in range 1-2 for Toryn's insane effect, stripped target locks that were in range of Dash and focus/evades elsewhere. Bad matchup for Omega Leader!

He managed to get his other 2 Bombers out but he placed one on the rock near his Gozanti, I guess he will need more maneuver practice! But it was getting pretty busy for his maneuvers to be planned perfectly.

Lots of shots exchanged on the right side where Miranda used her main turret at Range 1 of howlrunner to almost kill her, I think Chewie finished the job. Norra shot an Academy pilot and killed it (he had bad greens the whole game sadly for him)

My X-Wings heavily damaged the Gozanti on turn 1 and again on turn 2 after he had recovered 5 shields

Dash ran away, he's my General after all.

Turn 3 ended like this:
14681099_1145009608911717_56885036170365

Sorry for the bad focus, not sure why it did that, rip my photographer skills.

Gozanti went down (Miranda did 2 dmg with TLT, followed up by 2 of the 3 X-Wings at range 1, he didn't bank 1 into my K-Turn'd X-Wing to crush it, as he wanted to recover as many shields as possible but I still burned through all of it.

Right side I put a lot of hurt on the Doomshuttle and denied it any shots, Dark Curse and Norra exchanged fire and both took a hit or two, didn't matter.

Dash kept running away from torp-launchers.

Double evade for Reinforce meant he didn't really shoot or couldnt damage my GR-75 (due to 2 dice attacks) and I neutralized more tokens and Omega Leader's.

He put a lot of hits through on Miranda but I did evade quite often this game, it was a bit unfair I have to admit. I should've lost both Dash and Miranda if not for crazy greens, especially considering his greens were failing him each time (and even moreso due to removing tl/focus/evades with the GR-75)

By then we were nearing the 2.5 hours mark and we made one last turn, I forgot to take an end of game photo - sorry! But basically, Dash bank'd 3 + boost + focus, got shot by Omega Leader (no tokens again, sorry!) and then killed Omega Leader (he had been damaged by miranda's TLT just before and he only got 1 evade against my 4 HLC hits). Shuttle went down to 2 X-Wing firing on it, the other one almost killed one of the TIE's with Norra attacking before but it survived on 1 hull.

End result:

Rebels killed 143 pts

Empire got 29 pts for half of Dash

Neutralizing his bombers with token removal was really really unfortunate for him, and lucky for me to have chosen that crew on the GR-75 otherwise I'd have taken quite a beating. Very happy about neutralizing Omega Leader. Too many games have I faced him and couldn't do anything about his tokens!

Next game should be saturday and against one on the same level as me as far as standard play goes but he has much more Epic experience so I expect to lose but to learn!

I'm thinking about taking another faction (first game I played Empire, now Rebels, next Scum? maybe) but it might be good to play more of the same to learn it better and have it in different situations. I'll see about that probably on saturday morning before I have to leave in a hurry! Thats what I always do >_>

Small update since I've played that epic game vs the Raider player and oh boy did I get crushed, 127 to 300! Crippled the front, but by then didnt have anything remaining to really deal with the rest of his fleet and the rear section.

That thing puts out so much fire and tanks pretty good, plus having Howlrunner for reroll AND decoy for PS8 raider fire.. oh god the combo is real and insane. My transport rammed it a few times to help cripple the front, but the rest of my fleet got picked out one by one starting on turn 1, losing an xwing before it could fire was pretty scary and after that it was pretty much 1 to 2 ship a turn while I couldnt put out enough damage to kill all his 3 evade ships.

Definitely need to rethink my approach against a raider.

He had the Raider tooled out perfectly to be a monstrous thing, 2 shuttles - one with palp, the other was Kagi (deals fairly nicely with ordnance especially if they have LRS hahaha.. x; ) and 6 Ties. While it didnt look like much compared to my ships, the raider more than made up for it.

I tried the new chewbacca + rage and with more practice I can see it making multiple 3 or 4 dice attacks against the Raider in the same turn, but then again, its 1 AGI will melt down pretty fast to the raider's firepower while trying to get near.

I did use one of my damaged A-Wings to get in front of the Raider to get crushed and trigger chewie, was funny to use such tactics. Felt pretty scummy!
