Wanting to start playing

By themattman, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I would like to start playing, but can not decide on what or where i should start. I'm not sure of anyone that plays any of these, but i'm sure there is. So trying to decide which one i should jump into is very confusing. Can anyone help me out?

Seriously, it's a great jumping on place for the game. A bit railroady, but a solid tutorial on how to play.

Check your local hobby shops or check online for gaming groups in your city. Even reddit can be useful in finding local players.

Sometimes if you want to play in a system, you have to be the one to run it. Get your friends interested.

True on both points above. The beginner games are good - particularly EotE, although AoR is great and FaD is, when run by the right GM, really good - and provide excellent starting points. Plus, you know, dice/maps/tokens are always great, and the free PDF extensions are nice additions to extend the worth of the box while taking away some of the rails. Finding people to play those in person should go about like Vulf said; can't find anything to add there.

If there's no one around and you're desperate to play, or you just love creative writing, play by posts are always a great venue. There are some here, a few going on over at rpg.net, and - as I hear it - a number of other great sites. Finding a recruiting (or, even better, just started) game is sometimes difficult, but you get to meet some neat people and the system feels great in the PbP format.

Yeah, if there's not a local gaming group that you can join up with, the Beginner Boxes are your best bet, with the Edge of the Empire and The Force Awakens sets being my recommendations. Yeah, all of them are a railroad in nature, but that's simply the nature of the beast as the adventure is teaching both the GM and the players the rules of the system. Plus, you get $15 worth of dice included, so what you're essentially doing is paying an extra $15 for the adventure, a condensed rulebook, and map + tokens.

I guess what i am asking is should i start with The Force Awaken, or the Edge of Empire. It seems that the Edge of empire is the more popular of the all. If i chose that i will need to wait until the reprint of the beginner box comes out.

Thanks

Honestly, it's going to depend more on what sort of story your group of potential players are most interested in.

EotE is very much a "scum and villainy" type of story, with the PCs being various types of seedy individuals of varying degrees of shadiness, with the intro adventure having them flee a small Tatooine city to escape the wrath of a Hutt gangster.

TFA leans a bit more towards the heroic side, with the PCs (a couple of whom are ex-Republic military) protecting a group of Jakku scavengers from local crooks, and in the process uncovering data from the Galactic Civil War that could be of a great boon to the Resistance/Republic.
