(Slight) Astromech Revival?

By JoeyBriefcase, in X-Wing

With Pattern Analyzer and Primed Thrusters coming in HOTR, I'm starting to see some applications for Targeting Astromech and R2 Astromech.

You can boost/focus and then get a target lock with Pattern Analyzer and Targeting Astromech, after T-Roll or K.

R2 astromech makes it easier to shed PTL stress with Nien Nunb and Pattern Analyzer.

R2 astromech helps with Pattern Analyzer "Snap" Wexley, who can boost after T-Roll, Focus, (Target lock too, with TA)

Then, on top of such cheap astromechs, you can attach IA and supe up some Blue Angels style T-70's. Do any other astromechs seem to return to viability? Is this stuff even good?

Its not as good as you yhink

Better than previously, sure, but the t70 is still too wildly inefficient to trade dice with anythjng, even when packing full mods

Regen poe remains a beast though

You have to outplay the HELL out of your opponent to win v vcxs and x7s etc

I expect that Pattern Analyzer and Primed Thrusters are going to do a lot for the competitiveness of the T-70. The TIE/fos will likely get a bit of a bump as well but due to their limited upgrade slots and already low cost, I don't think it will be near the impact that the T-70 sees.

PA and PI can really let a lot of combos of pilot abilities, EPTs, and Astromechs shine.

BB-8 and PI are going to be another popular combo.

The TIE/fo probably won't be that bothered, more because of how awesome Comm Relay is for its cost. Zeta Ace is the one obvious exception. The ability to segnor and then perform a double-length barrel roll opens up some ludicrous positioning options in a knife fight.

The TIE/sf might be interested; the combination of Pattern Analyser and Primed Thrusters and the options in the sensor slot (Fire Control System or Advanced Sensors) could do quite a bit, especially if you want to use Quickdraw's PS9 to fly her as something like a mini-dengar rather than a self-destructing kamikaze.
