Is Dodonna the best ever?

I mean dude..... he's only 20 points, so that right there, is a huge incentive - I know a lot of people would sometimes go without any commander just to squeeze more out of their build.

But he also fits into EVERY build. Most other commanders have to usually be in a certain type of build that suits them best, but Dodonna works great in every build.

And he ALSO works even if your opponent hits an asteroid! And if you use Minefields!

Honestly I think he is one of the best commanders even if you doubled his point cost - so the fact that he is also only 20 points really makes me wonder why guys like Garm Bel Iblis were costed 5 points more.

The only other commander who is anywhere close to this level of amazing looks to be Jerjerrod when he comes out, and thats' mostly because of the revitalization he's bringing to so many Imperial ships, especially the victory - but he too, will fit into very many lists with ease, making Interdictors, Victories, and ISD's all significantly better!

Loved the big D since launch. He is worth taking just to give your opponent that grin as you rearrange the damage deck.

Dodonna is OP!

The only time I wouldn't want him might be if I was going all GR-75's with A-Wings.

Yes, he is the best. Feels so good to control the crits I give.

I would say he's a solid generalist that you can build for. I still think Rieekan is a better generalist for the tactical flexibility. Both have abilities you may not even get to use for a whole game, but Rieekan lets you play in a more aggressive way, and doesn't mind going second.

I totally agree that Dodonna is the "best" Rebel commander. He is so efficient, and all you have to do is damage the other ships. Who doesn't want to do that? :)

For 20 points, Ozzel can be quite nice too. Not to take anything from Dodonna, who's one of the best rebel commanders for me as well, I'm just pointing out that this game is all about positioning, and Ozzel helps a lot with that. The Demolisher speed 1 to 3+1 trick always catches people off guard, no matter how much they expect it to happen.

Soo, can this be general 20 points commanders appreciation thread?

I usually fly a figher-heavy list (lots of X-wing and Y-wings), and more often then not, Dodonna is my default. My usual oppoents refuse to play "precision strike" when I bring my fighter wing after a lucky Dodonna game where they kept getting crits through. :D

But this is one thing that I really applaud FFG about, there are really very few useless upgraded in Armada. There are quite a few nitch cards, but very few are not worth the paper they are printed on. For fun I have recently stated experimenting with Bel Iblis (I just got 2 dreadnaughts, so as an old Lengends fan...) and with command 3 ships he actaully has done more then I initally thought he would do.

Love Dodonna with APT and bombers, so evil....

I never use Dodonna. He's the Rebel admiral I am least likely to take.

I am always happy to play against him as his ability rarely changes the outcome of the game.

My default as well, for all the aforementioned reasons.

I treat his ability like an early Christmas gift and I like that my fleet doesn't collapse if he's killed.

In the grand scheme of things, most of the rebel admirals are that way. Each ability might or might not trigger or have a noticable effect. Play vs Reikian list and be able to kills ships after they activate = no change to outcome. Madine when you never need the extra yaw tick, etc... Almost every admiral's ability can not change anything if the game/dice don't give the opportinuty. Only one that always does kinda is Motti.

Meh. Garm is almost as cheap and always works very well in my fleets that don't use Rieekan or Mon Mothma. The fleets I would want to use Dodonna in are ones full of APTs. However, that means shrimp frigates, which means Mon Mothma is the far superior choice.

Garm is extremely underrated.

Vader is underrated - I got Ackbar to work for me, I KNOW I can make Vader great too :P

Sure his ability will work to some degree in most games. But there is an opportunity cost.....for only 5/10/18 points more, you could have a different ability that suits your fleet better.

This right here is why Armada is such a good game. There really is no auto take admiral.

Which one would take which commander? Each player only gets the benefit of his own commander, the abilities don't combine for the whole team.
