Nice art, but it's a retcon. Darth Vader is made out to be the culprit here, where it was Tarkin (oh sweet innocent episode 4 days without Sykwalker family drama), and Leia never broke down. ^^

Well one of several million planets. Also: Alderaan was not very densely populated.
So economically it hasn't hurt the empire significantly.
