Fairy Godmother Ahsoka

By Delta Sigma, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Was playing around and came up with this list, thought it might warrant a further critique:

Poe Dameron (31)
Adaptability (0)
R5-P9 (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Norra Wexley (29)
Push the Limit (3)
Tail Gunner (2)
R2-D2 (4)
Vectored Thrusters (2)
Alliance Overhaul (0)

Ahsoka Tano (17)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Rey (2)
Black Market Slicer Tools (1)
Captured TIE (1)
Sabine's Masterpiece (1)

Total: 100

This list slow-rolls at the beginning of the game to build up some focus tokens on Ahsoka before rolling into the thick of it. Being able to give Poe and Norra actions without PtL stress is huge. The free action is especially good on Poe, who's always in danger of being blocked and denied his all-important focus action. Alternatively, it lets Norra acquire target locks on higher PS pilots who were out of range when she activated. You'll probably end up with 3-4 free focus to spend as extra actions and use BMST at the same time. After that you can always focus with Ahsoka and, if the action is not needed, convert it into a slice attempt.

I'm not sure if I'll keep Black One title or convert it into Veteran Instincts, but for now I'm enamored with the idea of purging target locks at the beginning of the combat phase. Let me know what you think!

Ooh, that Ahsoka focus>slice thing is nice.

I was thinking of a similar build and I like it (although the points are tight). I wonder if dropping Black One to upgrade Rey to a Rec Spec might be better. Even with slow rolling, Rey is only like to bank a couple of Focus tokens before you need to start spending them again.

Rey does allow you to bump, however, so there is a trade off.

But I'm also in the "Rec Spec > Rey" team, as, even with slow rolling, you'll only likely have three Focus stacked by the time combat starts, and WON'T be banking them again (probably, or not to any serious impact).

Also you have BMST but no stress-inducers in your list. Is it just for insurance in case you run up against PTL-junkies like Soontir?

For one point, BMST is pretty solid Ace insurance. There are some times when you literally can NOT hit someone like Soontir. This gives you the possibility of changing that, either by hurting them via stress, or via reducing their token stack when they skip using PtL.

I've been looking at something similar. I forgot about Rey crew for Ahsoka!

The biggest part is it allows you to attack without attacking. So Captured Tie is still in effect. I was thinking of trying Sabatour on Ahsoka. For same reason.

My original list had Rec Spec, but I wanted to make sure you could get the bonus action and slice in the same turn.

I'd personally go with Rey. Until you start actually attacking you're not going to need more than one focus per turn (Unless you're up against PS 9, in which case you'll probably be using BMSTs anyway).

You can do it with RecSpec, too, sort of, if you count Ahsoka passing herself a bonus action to Slice.

I got a chance to play this list against a friend, so I thought I'd put the battle report here.

Opponent was also using unreleased stuff, Hux + 2 Defenders
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
General Hux (5)

Maarek Stele (TIE Defender) (35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Tractor Beam (1)
TIE/D (0)

Rexler Brath (37)
Juke (2)
TIE/x7 (-2)

I set up in my right corner, facing left, while he set up in the middle facing forward. First turn I slow rolled to bank a focus (as well as a minimum speed 2 on the TIE allows me to slow roll), while he rocketed forward at speed 5 with the defenders, with Hux right behind. I saw that I wasn't going to get another turn to build up focus on Ahsoka, so I turned in to face him head-on. He gave Maarek Fanatical Devotion, and used his tractor beam to barrel roll Norra into R3 before shooting at Poe. Poe and Norra fired at Maarek while Rexler also shot a Poe, dealing 4 damage while I stripped the shields from Maarek and regenerated a shield. Turn 2, Hux rolled forward and gave Devotion to Maarek again. Norra did a 1 forward and the barrel rolled, trapping Maarek at R1 when it K-turned in between Norra and Ahsoka. Rexler TL'ed Poe, hoping to force me to boost from Poe. Poe moved forward alongside Ahsoka and focused, with Ahsoka passing over an action to Poe to Boost into R1 of the shuttle. Combat phase, Poe whiffed on attack, and Maarek used Devotion to make his Tractor beam shot hit, dropping Poe's AGI. I responded by landing 4 hits on Maarek, clearing him off the board, but the attacks from Rexler and Lambda killed Poe in turn. Over the next few turns, I moved Ahsoka behind the shuttle and cleared it off the board while Rexler couldn't force damage through TL+Focus+Regen. The shuttle went down, and I spent the rest of the game trading shots and whittling down Rexler for the victory

It was a good match, Hux + Rexler is pretty hilarious. With Fanatical Devotion, Rexler can force through a hit and turn it into a crit. My sneaky slow roll proved pretty ineffective against Speed 5 ships, and of course BMST wasn't terribly useful (only Hux ever became stressed). Next time I will try dropping Captured Tie in order to upgrade Rey to Rec Spec, and we'll see how that performs!

If you drop "Captured TIE," I can tell you how it turns out -- your overly expensive TIE pops during round one of shots, drawing the same kind of heat Howlrunner does (even more effectively... for a turn... than Biggs!).

You absolutely do not want to lose Captured TIE. Lose Black One instead, or find the point elsewhere, Ashoka's ability really wants to be babied for as long as humanly possible.
