Bigger Dice -Computer Models anyone?

By Suma99, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

A friend of mine is visually impaired and while he loves playing and GMing RPGs, he's unable to use anything but the systems which use dice he can either get bigger (like standard polyhedral) or can get computer models to scale up to print on a 3D printer. He does want to give the system a proper shot beyond having other people read out his dice results for him. However, given his 'good' eye is currently playing up again he's unable to do any computer modelling to at least try and make the dice.

I know a few people have made custom dice, so does anyone know if there are 3D CAD models that he could use to print scaled up dice -or even who to ask at Fantasy Flight Games about that?

The app makes the dice appear pretty big. If he wants to 3D print them, or have them done custom, he could probably always just sub symbols like circles and triangles for the game symbols.

Of course, he could always print out labels and stick them on larger standard dice.

They made up labels for the original EotE Beta, and I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to find a copy or make up a new set.

But larger versions of the official FFG SWRPG dice would be copyright violations, and sites like Shapeways and Thingiverse would be unlikely to be willing to host blatant copyright violations.

I'm completely blind. I have an uncle who created Braille dice for me on a 3d printer. To be honest, I felt that using them slowed us down way too much. Maybe your friend sees well enough to visually read the dice quickly but trying to do it by touch was very slow and that includes the fact that i am an excellent Braille reader.

I use the ffg app and i'm pretty good at setting up and rolling my own dice and just leaving it to others to read them.

The app has a nice magnify feature and tally the results.

The othe option would just be to apply stickers with the symbols needed big enough to read. The FFG uses standard 6, 8 and 12 sided dice. Maybe even color code them so the detail isn't needed

Fair use, you could always get custom dice for yourself, not cheap, but copyright prevents commercial distribution mainly. Engraved metal dice sound like to coolest option and should be reasonable cheap. 3D printed dice might be problematic for consistency of the rolls.

Or just don't bother at all with all of that and just use a dice app. ;-)
