I can't find No Disintegrations on Amazon... do you have a link?

Just bought it moments before I commented on here yesterday. Should be arriving on Monday. Unfortunately, it looks to be out of stock now. :(

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1633443116/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Looks like I may have gotten one of the last ones.

Thanks... man, they really sell out fast :(

Yeah, got it on sale for $24.82. The day before I believe it was listed for $29.

I managed to get a copy off Amazon also, but its crazy how fast they (FFG star wars products) sell out everywhere. Combine that with the very long restock times... equals many frustrated players/customers.

Rogue One and TFA may be boosting their sales.

I managed to buy a copy off Amazon Thursday. The behavior of my FLGS really pissed me off. Once before they relied on their computer system to automatically place their pre-orders for ffg star wars books and it didn't work, since then I've been asking them with each book to place a manual pre-order for each new book and since then I've gotten every book on release day. For no disintegrations, when I (on more than one occasion) reminded them to place the manual preorder because no disintegrations was going to sell out fast and then they wouldn't be able to get it, and they again agreed to place the manual preorder, but this time they didn't and instead they told me their shipment came in the day before release day so I had to wait a week, and on the Wednesday I called and they said to check back Thursday because the shipment was due to come in Thursday, and I called back Thursday and it was then that they admitted that they didn't place the manual preorder this time and now they were having problems getting the book because their supplier had sold out (as I had predicted/warned them). So I quick bought it on Amazon, and paid $25 for 1 day shipping to get it to me by Saturday (today) [note depending on the time of day 1 day shipping can mean 2 days].

So the reason I am upset with my FLGS is after they screwed up (with the consequences I predicted/warned them about) they didn't admit it for a week which meant I almost missed the window to buy it online before it sold out.

I have to believe that they get more people pirating the books because they make it so dang hard to buy them

despite the VALID motivation (inability to buy the books due to lack of availability not the inability to pay for the book), I still believe that book piracy is VERY WRONG and should be avoided. However, since it legal for anyone to scan their own book for their own personal use, I would not fault someone who already owned the book who was able to download a pirated copy for their own use because the only difference is they saved themselves the time of scanning their own book. Because, seriously, my game moved from the FLGS (most of their space is room for people to game with only about a quarter of their space being devoted to selling gaming products) to my apartment largely because I couldn't transport all of the FFG books (yes I own all of them) and wotc minis and maps and snacks any more, and my wife let me buy a "that's not a coffee table that's a dinner table for hobbits" coffee table to game at.

Agree completely!

Was it easier to find the books before TFA and Rogue One? I've only been playing with this system since after those movies came out.

I live in the US, I have a pretty good FLGS, and I shop MM over Amazon. so don't think I'm a credible source.

I don't think its a case of making it hard to buy them, I think its a case of stores not using their limited budgets on RPG books that have dubious sales at this stage. Not that the Star Wars books are bad sellers, but supplements are always harder to move than main rulebooks, so pre-orders are essential. Granted, Elias' experience with his local shop was poor, but many stores don't think about new release RPG books that don't have D&D or Pathfinder in the title, due to a limited player base. I've pre-ordered the last few Force and Destiny books from my FLGS and had no issue getting them. I have ordered No Disintegrations, but I also did so late, as I've only recently started buying the non-Force and Destiny books (a buddy had EotE, so I waited for F&D), so I'm still waiting for it to make its way across Canada to my shop.

The store nearest me usually has a decent stock of all three lines and the beginner games. Since I started playing about a year ago, it was usually easy for me to walk in and get any book that I wanted. On new release days, there are normally a few copies on the shelf by the time I get there. During the summer, my regular comic store opened a new location, with the owner's son managing, and he's trying to build a gaming clientele. So, he started ordering the existing books that I needed to fill out the set (yes, I, too, have all of them), and pre-order the new releases for me. (These guys have earned my loyalty hundreds of times over in the 20+ years I've been their customer, so I'd much rather drive further to give them the money.)

And, boy am I glad I did that with No Disintegrations. After picking up my copy at the comic store last Friday, my son and I went by the aforementioned game store to see about him learning to play X-Wing. All of their copies were already gone. My GM reported being there when they opened Thursday to pick it up, and as he was walking back to get it, someone zoomed past him to ****** up a copy.

Nice. My local store hasn't got any of the core books at the moment, sitting comfortably on a couple of copies of Onslaught on Arda and a copy of the old Age Beta book. Their supply of RPGs is predominantly D&D and Pathfinder with a few core books for other games mixed in. The place I picked up most of my Force and Destiny from hasn't replenished their supply since I bought them out of them months ago, and their RPG shelf is woefully underfilled. There's not a ton of demand for RPGs, at least at the shops I usually frequent. I did get one F&D book from a store that carried a few more RPG books than the other two, but it certainly wasn't overwhelmingly supported. With so many RPGs being Kickstarted and limited demand, stores investing in keeping a good selection in stock are becoming increasingly uncommon.

That would be crazy frustrating, guess they don't want your business...

What's "MM"? Online retailer? local FLGS?

[M]iniature [M]arket is a website for board games, miniatures, Role-Playing Games and the like.

All I can say is, when Wizards was printing Saga Edition, each expansion book was available on Amazon for months following release with no shortages, usually at least a good 20% off cover price. Oddly, the same has also been true of every FFG board game I've bought (and I own a lot of them).

This system has better rules than Saga Ed, but the business end of the whole operation is pretty frustrating by comparison with Wizards' well-oiled machine of distribution.

Well, WotC does have the Hasbro machine (and money) behind it....

I don't think it has anything to do with the Hasbro machine, because we can't overlook the powerful distribution of FFG/Asmodee, either. Granted, the limited distribution chains of FFG products (for example, only available through one company, Lion Rampant Distribution, in Canada) may play a role, but I also recall that FFG/Asmodee was trying to help FLGS by limiting advance stock for the Amazons of the world.

However, the reality is that the RPG market isn't anywhere near as strong as it used to be, so its not surprising that places don't carry the amount of product they used to. Being hung with dozens of $40 books is a big inventory sink, and even the exclusive distributors like Lion Rampant will err on the side of light for their order size, since they don't want too much overstock.

As powerful as it might be, it isn't as powerful as the Hasbro toy empire. The ease of which WotC books were in stock could be something as simple as WotC being able to absorb the cost of having too much product (since it was basically used to push mini's anyway the real cash cow for them with Star Wars) a lot easier than FFG can. When you have Hasbro level money backing you having too much product is a viable thing. When you don't it may be better to print low and do more reprints as demand warrents.

It also depends on the interests of the owner of the FLGS, and their customer base. I was using a store that had a decent stock and ordered books on their own, so presumably they had a regular customer base looking for the products and games going. The store I go to now has only a few products (and very minimal RPG stuff in general), and I presume most of their customer/player base is focused on other kinds of board games, miniature games, and card games.

. . . my Vigil is nearly over.

Apologies for the thread necromancy but it has taken me this long to actually find a copy in the UK. Just two more days for the Royal Mail to lose it for me and extend the vigil . . .

I did indeed speak too soon. Retailer just cancelled my order. Apparently they were selling stuff on Ebay they didn't actually have and then discovered neither did the distributor. The Vigil is Endless once more. :(

You have my sympathy. I too struggled to get this one and got lucky finding it on eBay for a reasonable price back in November.
