Alric and relics in Edge of Dawn HoB

In HoB, during the Edge of Dawn quest, what happens if Alric has equipped a relic during enc #1 and then, after the OL wins enc #1 .... "If the overlord won encounter 1, Sir Alric Farrrow wields the Duskblade relic" ???

If he wields the Sheild from enc 1 ... does the shield get bumped? Or does the OL have to either NOT equip a relic on him in enc 1 or choose to loose enc 1 in order to keep something like the Sheild (obtained in an earlier quest) "wielded"?

Reminder: Relics have to be wielded during the setup of a quest and a lieutenant can only wield one relic.
