What ships/expansions are you okay with not buying?

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

I'm one of those "one of everything and more of the things I like" but there are many ships that I have either not played or not played enough. Occasionally that makes me question my purchasing habits but I can honestly state that there isn't a single expansion that I haven't used at least one card from and, as someone that hates proxying if I don't have to, then I will likely keep buying one of each.

I don't have the Ghost, and I'm not in a hurry to get it.

The K-Wing sat on a wish list for a year until I got it as a birthday present.

Haven't dropped the Benjamins for a Corvette... yet...

Otherwise, I enjoy the variety, and assume I'll get at least 1 of each ship eventually. It's a matter of how I prioritize each.

The Syck.

Even with the new FAQ for it's title, it's still not worth a buy for me. Ships like the Scyk need to be flown in groups, and I'm a "buy one of each expansion" kind of guy. I don't buy multiples of ships because I don't play competitively enough to warrant it. A single Scyk isn't very useful to me when I need at least 3 or 4 of them to make real good use of them. All other scum ships I can make work as a one-of. And there are no upgrade cards it has that I can't get from a different expansion (minus the title of course).

You don't even think 19 pts for a PS 2 Heavy Scyk with Ion Cannon isn't worth it? It doesn't need to go in a swarm or even have another Scyk in the list. It's a nice, cheap ship that can dish out Ion tokens after everyone's shot and without tokens.

Lambda. (Just get the crew and Pursuit Lasers.)
YT-2400.
Ghost/Phantom.
TIE Bomber.
X-Wing. (Just get Wedge.)

VT-49. (Just get the crew.)

StarViper. (Just get Autothrusters.)

Kihraxz.

T-70.

Probably the Shadow Caster.

Scyk.
Imperial Aces.

Epic ships. (Although the stuff in the Transport is tempting.)
Upsilon shuttle?

Raider, as I got two sets of the TieAdv upgrades separately, am in the process of building a Deci-based custom equivalent, & don't play Imperials enough to get Palp!

...really not sure about the Upsilon, as it looks so unwieldy and I expect my regular opponent will get one, so may wait & see if I like it in the flesh...probably will get the Striker, but as with the SF & Punisher, just a single.

...but, almost certainly, 2x Sabines & 2x QuadJs...maybe an extra QJ model as well, for some conversion work  ;)

I don't intend on purchasing anything from the cartoon Rebels. Not just because it's not cannon and I don't "feel" or even understand anything about it, but the ships are clumsy and painted like schoolgirls were in charge of the designs. The Ghost? come on man. I guess the Shadowcaster almost looks cool enough to purchase, and it has a turrent mechanic that all turreted ships should of had all along. But then I'm like, "hey, you like it in your mind cause it hearkens back to some Star Trek designs," and then, even though I'm almost taken in by it; I slap myself awake and I realize: that's Star Trek, not Star Wars you moron...almost got me, **** sneaky mouse.

The only thing I don't buy are the paywall ships....I mean Epic ships.

I don't like how the Ghost wobbles, or how it's so huge compared to everything else. Even as a Rebel player, I don't want one.

It's obviously not a Star Trek ship, there is no void directly between the Nascelles for a subspace field to form, it would rip the back of the ship apart as soon as it went into Warp.

Nothing, must own everything.

Same, I must have one of each, at least to try it.

The Fang fighter hasn't spoken to me, yet. Old Terroch looks cool, but I don't see myself giving him much playtime. Then the expansion also has no real must have upgrades, so its far back on the priority. Neither Raider nor CR-90 offer me much, as I prefer the small epics, don't care about TIE Advanceds and also care little for aces. Oh and I have 3PO. And since I don't care about the TIE Advanced, I'll also probably never get that. The ship just doesn't look right to me, I know thats blasphemy, but even as a child I didn't like it. So stubby.

Other than that I have pretty much everything, some things in multiples.

My list:

Everything not Imperial.

I'm serious. If I need cards from the other factions there is a second hand market for them.

However, it is canon.

Gotta have 'em all!

Yep, all of them!

There are a few similar sentiments being expressed about epic. I just suggest you try an epic game or two, with at least one huge ship per side, and then decide if they are worth getting.

You could always keep the non-epic bits and re-sell the rest.

As a competitive player, I find I buy at least one of everything, as FFG strategically places upgrades. I don't think I'll ever fly the TIE/sf, but I wanted Collision Detectors.

During my casual play, I like to experiment, so... Probably one of everything.

Notables that I don't recall ever flying, though:
YT-1300
StarViper
Scyk
Kihrax
ARC-170 (But only because I haven't been able to put a full list that I like yet... I'm not really a Rebel player, though)
B-Wing
G-1A
Firespray
Gozanti
Raider

Flown Once...
X-Wing
HWK
TIE/sf

In my defense, I was buying ships long before I had a partner to play with, then eventually decided to just start playing in tournaments. Randomly, this caused my non-gaming brother to become interested, so he buys all of Scum while I pick up the rest.

So far I've bought one or more of everything.

That said, I am very hesitant to getting the Upsilon-command shuttle.

And the Yellow-TIEmarine. I love Rebels. But do we really need this repaint?

But who am I fooling?

I have a bad feeling about this.

But I'm going to get it ALL!

finally about an Agressor, but I still don't know what to do with it.

YV666 and Tie Punnisher are the two ships currently out I have yet to purchase and I don't know if I ever will...

I've got over 100 ships, but not a single Aggressor...

I just buy ships that I like.

Every once in a while I'll consider a ship that has a cool upgrade or an interesting crew member, but unless you are playing in a tournament (for which the numerically superior lists have been calculated and calculated again) you really should just play a list that you like. Thematically, aesthetically, however.

I had a Scum-buddy that I played against for months; I never won a game against him, but I still had a ton of fun playing my ships, learning their ins and outs, making them mine. When I finally did win, it felt like slaying a dragon! I had conceded an extra 25pts to him so he could use both Bossk and an IG-88 with a few Skyks, and I won with old fashioned TIEs and Interceptors! :D

Ghost

TIE/fo

TIE/sf

Sabine's TIE

TIE Punisher

VT-49 Decimator

Kylo Ren's Shuttle

Quadjumper

Not sure about the U-Wing and TIE Striker yet.

I tried epic a few times, it didn't really grab me. I like the smaller dogfighting feel; Huge ships is for Armada in my opinion.

Ill skip the epic ships.

I like epic games but I prefer just running small base ships with a select few large base ships running like command boats, I dont need the epic ships to get the epic feel, heck they just get in the way of the original gameplay if anything.

Scyks, Kihraxz, HWK, T65 Xwing and the Gozanti can be skipped.

How can you "skip" the very ship the game is named for... the t-65 X-wing?

That's just not right.

I've still not picked up a Decimator or the Imp Vets pack. Given how little I'm flying Imps these days, I doubt I'll pick up either Imp ship from Wave 10. And unless the Quadjumper has something "must have" for Scum, I can't see myself rushing to get it either.

So come Wave 10, I think it will be just Sabine's TIE and a U-Wing (or two)...

I realize there are some of you who collect all expansions and mulitples of those expansions. Besides those players, who is okay with not getting all of the expansions and which ones?

My list is as follows.

Quadjumper

Ghost and attack shuttle

Sabines TIE fighter

TIE/SF

Kihraxz

What's your list?

Anything scum.
